that's a really scary situation. kinda sux the BG got away. he's free to do harm elsewhere. if that happened when i'm around, i don't really know what i'd do.
i just checked my dirty walther p22. haven't cleaned it in awhile and the chamber is all fouled up. i dry fired it a few times and rechecked. no contact marks on the chamber from the firing pin. if i remember correctly (before i sold it last year), i dry fired my sig 522 a few times to see if it made contact. i don't believe it did.
here's a post of a group of frat boys going after an asian ccw. http://www.myfoxphilly.com/dpp/news/local_news/012010_Family_Of_Eddie_DiDonato_Speaks_Out_After_Shooting the article tries to make the shooting victim a hero, but the jury viewed the surveillance video and saw the shooter as defending himself against 3 attackers. the shooting victim was shot 6x within 5 feet with a .38 pistol. he will recover. as i pointed out, caliber size doesn't matter if you can't aim correctly. surveillance video here http://www.myfoxphilly.com/dpp/news/local_news/Old_City_Shooting_01_17_10 the shooter needed more range time, but he sure was quick to draw and unload. punching while shooting isn't something i've considered practicing.
doesn't matter what caliber, just hit your target... shotguns don't automatically hit their targets either. bad guys don't just stand in the open. when they see you with a gun, they will react. if they shoot first and hit, it doesn't matter what gun you have. pistols are more maneuverable than rifles/shotguns but are much harder to aim with. for home defense, the range isn't much and a pistol is preferred unless you have a very short barrel shotgun. i frequently do CQB airsoft games and rifle muzzles are easy to grab coming around a corner. shooting at the stairs is not as easy. even with a shotgun. if the firefight lasts longer than 5 minutes, then you will need more ammo. hitting the target is more important than caliber size. whatever you train with will work best. there are more concerns in home defense than just caliber size. -a|ex
i also plink with federals (550 value pack at least 10k rounds last year). no problems with either on the walther p22 but i do get an FTF once in awhile on the sig 522 using federals. i've only shot fewer than 2k cci until the cost started adding up. i still have a good 12k stash of federals. i always clean my firearms after i get home from the range, so excessive fouling is no problem. -a|ex
there is a company that makes an M4 stock folding adapter that should fit the 522. http://www.shop.doublediamondsupply.com/AR-15-stock-adapter-for-SIG-556-Classic-DDSIGADTM401.htm -a|ex
i train with a .22 so i'm more accurate with it. i train with a .22 because it's cheaper which result to more range time. i have larger calibers which i shoot maybe a box at a time in a month. but weekly training using 500 rounds per week makes proficiency on any caliber more desirable. i'm pretty sure i can hit 6x headshots within 12 feet during panic with a .22 i wish i could afford to shoot as many rounds at the range with the other calibers. ideally, i would like to use my 5.7x28 40 grain since it's made to tumble inside the body as well as expand and not over penetrate. but it's still expensive $20 per box of 50. -a|ex
