  1. busy working. I took the GSG5 out just two days ago. With the new mags and CCI rounds. The weapons will FTF, FTE if you do not use the stock to hold the weapon firm. IF you hold the weapon, this may prevent the bolt from completing its full cycle - as the spring does not have a firm 'foundation'. Using the Classic Army sliding stock, it rates close to POS (peice of shit) - the stock can lose index if you try to hold the weapon to firmly to your shoulder. Going to put the GSG stock back on. All in all - I blew threw 400 rounds with only 5 FTF/FTE issues - getting better.
  2. DNR

    1911 in 9mm

any 9mm with a single stack mag is likely to be a compact pistol, not exactly a regular shooting gun. lastly, a 9mm coming out of a short barrel has to be pretty lame, so the question is WHY? -DNR
  3. Camp Grayling in Michigan is open for public shoots - 1000 yd range. DNR
  4. Stuff like that will always have value - as long as the guns exist. If you don't get the gun for it, you still have something to barter with other gun owners. I try not to buy shit I dont need, still paying off the stuff I thought I needed, but didn't... DNR
  5. Anyone try Clay? I mean soft clay for targets - like the non-drying grey kiddie clay. You can shape them, and they respond with splattering holes. You rebuild them again. You lose a little bit of clay each time, but its cheap - fits in a 5 gallon bucket. yea, we made little guys and perforated them - "Oh No Mr. Bill" was frequently uttered down range. Google silhouette shooting targets - thats where I got revolving and static metal targets - apparently for .22 they are made of lighter alloy, not steel. DNR
  6. I think if Clubs do not know about or offer Tactical training for civilans - we should form our own clubs. A gun range or gun club might give more exception to a group of shooters than one individual. It is not hard to set ground rules, and even membership. It can't be monopolized, as it will be made from local shooters. I agree- the hardest thing - is finding a place that respects a tactical shooter - to allow some double taps, some target arrangements (el presidente', low light, fast reloads, etc) Many gun ranges have placed strict rules for shooting thanks to the dumbasses playing with guns - while the rest of us were trying to train. Single round loads in magazines, one shot per second/or 5!, Standing position only, no fast reloads, and limited target arrangements. I would pay more to be a part of a tactical gun club. DNR
  7. The backyard firing range was the best in my youth. I guess this is the best thing about .22s - you can shoot them in your backyard! I did shoot a 9mm carbine in my backyard, into the same backstop of old tires wood and dirt. One day I got some 9mm tracers, and I found out the 9mm rounds were bouncing through the backstop - as I watched the tracers sail up in the air! Again, not a problem with .22 lr.... Yes, that white sh*t - sometimes I get tired of it - wish I was a southerner. But then again, I remember I am stronger than a southern because I am tempered by that cold white sh*t. I am bad ass ; ) DNR
  8. Also Props to Bda - he recommends that the .22 not be your first choice for home defense. He is right, I would consider the .22 lr a decent choice - if I did not have a 12 gauge or .45. For fight bad guys, again - you, the victim are at disavantage - you are being ambushed, attacked at close range, with little or no preparation. At best - you might only get off one shot, and it might not be aimed. I would hope that shot would be a 12 gauge or .45 - as Bda points out - those bullets are capable of incapitating a bad guy with a off center shot. The .22 needs a well placed shot., the .22 needs to keep firing until the bad guy is down. Bad guys are pumped up, angry, jumping you in the dark and so stealthlike - you need every advantage to survive - I would not bet it all on a .22. The .22 is only a part of your tool kit, and perhaps this is not the best function of a .22 - home defense. I would use the .22 to practise tactical training, so it is still very valuable. -DNR
  9. Crime lab background here. One of the best things I can say for .22 letality - .25 cal, .32 cal, even .380 from a 2" barrel - had nothing over the high velocity, lead bullet mess a .22 puts on meat. I would even rather get shot with a .38 than a high velocity .22 - at least it will be one slug to dig out, not a shotgun pattern of lead bits. Terminal ballistics favors high velocity over bullet weight anytime. It creates a temporary cavity, and hydrostatic shock. The fact the .22 bullet breaks up almost everytime, made it a favorite bullet for assasins - no rifling marks or bullet striations to compare - made it harder to match bullets to a gun. Funny thing about people and dying - some die easy, some will run for miles with no heartbeat. Go figure. For those who will experience combat - it is all psychological - he who has the stronger will will survive. Your body will suffer the "golden hour' - no pain during trauma - most victims were overcome by weak psychological reasons - "I should be dying!". Train to fight through. Medical background and more crime lab - your body can function for 10 full seconds without a heartbeat. Case in fact - people with their hearts blown out were still able to run and fight for up to 10 seconds. Again, proves that its the will to fight, not physical. Bad thing is - yes I wonder, if a person is decapitated, they could very well veiw their body stumbling around for a full 10 seconds too. I wished I did not know stuff like this.. -DNR
  10. My GSG5SD, with vert grip, LED flashlight w/strobe feature. Sight Mark reflex sight. Mag clamp and extra mags elsewhere. And one bad ass operator.. ;D -DNR
  11. Hey I have gone mtn biking at Island Lake Rec! Hope we meet up for a shoot! -DNR
  12. Tried CCI stuff - The Velocitator was good, but some FTF, and FTE. I need to wait for a shipment of magazines - to figure out the cause by process of elimination. The rounds would fail to extract, causing a double feed. Some rounds got bent. One critical feed error - a stovepipe round stuck in the magazine - cost me minutes to deal with. I was able to quickly cycle the cocking knob, pull the mag, and check the breech - so at least it was fast to get the weapon back in action. DNR = do not resuscitate
  13. The GSG5 is a free floating barrel. The barrel Shroud aka faux suppressor does kind of center it as you screw it on. The barrel just looks so thin and weak. as far as the .22 LR round causing the barrel to torque, I don't think it will happen. Could happen with .308. The main issue is the barrel is thin and could be bent causing your sights to be unable to sight in the barrel. You should use the flash hider or barrel shroud. My faux suppressor is all metal, I can see why the ATF was concerned about it - it is strong enough to convert - a 2 liter pop bottle with pipe clamp worked fine on the 10/22, so this metal can would too. (not encouraging anyone to illegally mod their faux suppressor). A bit disappointed in the GSG5 first day out at the range - some FTF, FTE. Report to follow. DNR = do not resuscitate
  14. Great! A Live forum - I have to admit - it was pretty quiet over at 22tactical.com I went shooting today - Brown Bear Sporting - Nice indoor range. Had some FTF, FTE - report to follow later. Thanks for the warm welcome DNR = do not resuscitate
  15. I got word the GSG5SD barrel shroud just had to have the inner sleeve. The older ones apparently were open on the inside - one could have just stuffed it with rubber baffles and drilled a hole for the barrel to slide through. Of course, the barrel would be 'ported' to vent the gases. I guess with the inner sleeve, the user would have to figure out how to drill holes inside to perforate the sleeve, as well as insert baffles into it. Just makes it harder. I own a GSG5SD 'inspected by GSG germany" Aug 7th, 2009 - it has the newer SD barrel shroud with the liner. DNR
