  1. Feeling pretty good about a couple of groups and sensing the breeze was letting up for a few minutes...I decided to shoot 1 more group. The Zero being my point of aim. Not sure why it shot high...but this resulted in my first one hole group ever!Guess the Savage likes the CCI!
  2. Have not had much chance to get the Savage out and work with it, Hoping to attend a few more Steel Dog matches now that spring has sprung!I have been using Fiocchi 22FHSUB as my ammo of choice, was able to get a fair amount of it during the shortage. My stock on it is dwindling, I have also been using it in my Silhouette Rifle. I am also suspect that it does not work well out of the Savage for my longer shots, 165, 180 and 200 yards. At the last couple of events I attended, I used Fiocchi 22FHVCRN for those shots with substantially much better results.Any way, I have been slowly collecting CCI Standard So I had something to maybe switch over to as my Fiocchi supply ran out.Yesterday I re-sighted my 50 yard 0 using the CCI Standard. In addition to the CCI. Changes made, Lowered the trigger pull to its lowest setting, not sure what the weight is but it would not break with the two pound weight I use on my Silhouette Rifle, guessing 2.5 or so. I also increased the action screw torque from 15inlbs to 20inlbs. Shooting my normal 5 x 5 shot groups, little bit of gusting wind to deal with.My previous best had beenAverage .9144 inBest single group .520 in Yesterdays results.Average .7632 in 15.2% improvementBest single group .456 6.4% improvement
  3. No real progress yet, been working like a mad man, took a part time job in another shop and have a couple of projects in mine right now, But, I did cut out a pattern and have the shape of the Ruger Stock traced and penciled on to the wood stock, It been sitting on one of my benches for a few weeks now and the desire to take a saw to it is still strong. So looks like the hybrid just might happen!! Did give some thought to maybe at some point down the road trying to make a walnut butt stock piece that would go back in place of the Ruger, try my hand at a little wood carving!
  4. I made a template off of the Ruger stock and transferred it to the wood stock tonight, traced the lines on to the wood...but did not take it to the saw! lol have some other things I should be working on this weekend, but we will see what happens!
  5. There probably is not enough surface area on the butt stock piece to really do anything cool Paint wise. So the end result would be the walnut stock with the ruger comb and butt piece. Function is important, really want the higher comb and to change the angle on the butt pad area. But yes, how well these mods will be received at the events I hope/intend this rifle to be used at, weigh heavy on all this also. If and when I get this all done, off to testing. It will have to out perform my Ruger 77/22 to replace it. Really waffling back and forth on this idea. Guess if it didn't look good...could just do the paint thing on both the walnut and the plastic. Just hoping I can do the wood work with out screwing it up!
  6. Looking for some honest feed back, I am undertaking a project, more on that later when I am ready to share…but wanting a taller comb on this rifle, was thinking about grafting in another piece of walnut. But then there would be a obvious wood color and grain differences, not to high on that. Have a friend that does amazing air brush work, so I could forgo the normal walnut look and do custom paint. But had another thought, cut the stock to accept the Ruger American Butt Stock. Does a hybrid stock sound and look cool? Or is this Idea just plain Fugly!!
  7. if I had the budget....would have every replica I could get my hands on!
  8. Better performance through advertisement and hype is nothing new in the world of lubricants... who's to say Crisco isn't a great gun lube if the testing has not been done!
  9. Been wanting to build a nice portable shooting bench for some time but have just not been able to find the time! Was using a old, small Formica table with fold out sides...but in and out of the truck, uneven ground, etc and its age...just was taking its toll. I had a old Black and Decker Workmate sitting around doing not much, so I started using it..still with the intent of building something nice. Then in one of those poof moments, It hit me! I could just build a new insert for it! Its stable, it folds up nice, I own it! a piece of one inch recycled plywood, a couple of 2x4's that actually were shaved down to the proper size in my Bridgeport. One shooting bench, zero cash out lay! Might make some changes so it can simply be converted to a left hand bench. Thinking about maybe covering it with some carpet. And a Stool! have some ideas about how to do a nice adjustable stool on the cheap!
  10. I think there are several 1911's that convert 22 and 45!
