Very nice. Was that self bought, or can people buy you a firearm in your part of the world? In the UK it can not be done. Sure you could get a note that says there is a gun waiting for you at the dealer, but it would be almost impossible to receive one under the tree, as a gift, due to our licensing system. DM

Blurb says "About the SureShotâ„¢ ballistic calculator: 5.11 Tactical partnered with Horus Vision, makers of proven long-range ballistic software, to bring their technology to your wrist. Input your known ballistic data (bore height, ballistic coefficient, muzzle velocity and zero range), then add your environmental data (range, temperature, altitude, inclination) and the SureShotâ„¢ calculator will give you a shooting result in MILS, TMOA or SMO" I like 5.11 (pronounced "five eleven") gear, shame it is so expensive in the UK, but then I am told it is not cheap in the USA. I highly recommend their TDU Pants. I got a pair for a 3 week firearms course, involving multi positional shooting. Although, initially the knee pads looked thin, they did the job grand. They are cut well around the bum and upper legs, so if you are a slightly heavier guy, these will swallow you up without fear of splitting, or looking like you are spilling over the top. Sales pitch finished.

Did rather well, but then I did purchase them myself for the wife to wrap. A 5:11 HRT Titanium Watch - the one with the sure shot calculator, And a Bushnell Elite 1500 ARC laser range finder. All I need now is the Kestrel 4500NV weather station, been waiting for the blue tooth enabled units to be launched. And a Chronograph. And all this whilst saving for my .308 One step forward, two back! DM

Thanks for asking, I have good days and bad days. I am hoping that the pain is due to continued swelling in the area of the surgery and not a sign that the operation did not work. Time will tell.

I used my laser as a help with range estimation. My laser was zeroed at 30 yards and my Scope at 45. That way if the laser fell below the cross hairs I knew the target was closer than 45 yards and if it was over the top, the target was further. I guess it depends where you fix your laser in relation to the scope as to how it works for you. I also found that a laser provided enough light for a night vision unit that I borrowed and actually lit targets up further than I imagined the laser would shine.

Funny that I should read this after posting on the Tommy Gun thread. I saw this on the range a couple of years back and asked the user about it. Suspicious about his offer to sell it to me he went on to tell me that it uses a long trigger bar between the 10/22 trigger and the action which is further back than normal, resulting in a terrible heavy trigger. Nothing against the Bull pup design, used the SA80 in the army, but I have been wary of stocks of this type since.
-
First look at this and I thought it was just another jacket for the 10/22 action. On closer look it is actually a very good design, using the correct trigger assembly etc (no extended trigger bars). I like this a lot and would love to handle and fire one. I can see that it would be a fun gun to pull out at the range and would create a lot of interest. I shoot a fun man v man competition. It would be very distracting for the other shooter if I kept this under raps until we approached the firing line >:D

I accept that these are the first press release pictures and that much can change before they start their first production run, But, looking at these pictures it looks like they are using the H&K take down pins, which was a topic for customising with the GSG's. Also looks like they have used the correct sling point on the stock and fore end but not on the magazine well, although there would appear to be mounting options. I would want to use a 3 point sling so that I could practise my drills at home as I do at work.

I had an operation on my spine fortnight back which will see me fiddling around the house until January,by which time I will be climbing the walls. I am having to be careful not to lift anything so I have had to leave the guns alone and have missed out on a couple of range days. Currently adding all my CD's to iTunes, so far got 4 days worth of music downloaded. My wife was not so happy when she realised that it was mostly only my music I was adding. Never mind, soon be back at work.

Both the Glocks (17) and H&K MP 5 that I use at work have "plastic" bodies and trigger guards, as does the S&W. I don't have a problem with the principal of the new 10/22 parts, but to be fair have not shot one yet. I would recommend thinking about buying a second hand gun as you will probably throw away the barrel and stock at some point. With the exception of the Receiver, I have replaced everything in/on mine - some more than once, as I play with different styles and products. I would also recommend that you try to handle a finished product of the design you are thinking about building. I spent a lot of money on a Green Mountain bull barrel only to find it was to heavy for the competition work I do. So I now have a light 15oz Tactical Solutions barrel on and there is no noticeable effect on felt recoil and I can keep it on target for much longer.

I see a lot being sold on online out of Hong Kong. This is a typical example. You would imagine that they do not stand up to much abuse. I was aware of Leupold copies being sold over 12 months a go, but they appear to have gone quiet - perhaps Leupold shut them down?
-
That's what I am thinking. When I heard about the H&K case against GSG and then that they had asked Umarex to make some of their models, I was expecting something late 2010 or after that. They must have been sitting on these designs for some time now, I wonder what else will be coming along. I have heard some negative comments re Umarex, are they to be avoided at all costs or is it a case of look at each design on it's own merits? I also wonder if all these are going to have the same internals.

I do not own an I phone yet, but along with the ballistic soft wear apps, that is already available, I can see that I might look into getting one in the new year, Read full story here, along with links: http://accurateshooter.com/bulletin.html I have also read that the Kestrel 4500 hand held weather station will come with Blue Tooth from next year - I can see that it is all coming together nicely in one package.

As suggested by Gramps I did a few searches on m4carbine.net The lads there appear pretty well split and loyalties are strong with both uppers. Being more interested in the Spikes I was interested to read that a Spikes upper works best with a Spikes lower. Some of the chaps were reporting feeding problems if they mixed and matched. I would like to see a Spikes lower being sold with a .22lr, .223 and .308 uppers (straight pull for the UK market) That would be one nice collection.

The cost of nearly everything shooting related is expensive over here. With us getting 1.6 $'s to the £ you would think that we would be able to pick up the Colt, S&W and Spikes for pocket money but no, somehow they end up costing Several Hundred. Magazines are the same, a 10/22 mag costs around £16.00 /$26.50 I even see that Accuracy Int magazines are cheaper in the States than here, where they are made - go figure that?

Mini Rifle was born around the time of the UK pistol ban in 1997. The competitions were designed around the old practical pistol courses of fire and at first attracted ex pistol shooters who were looking to keep shooting and liked those styles of competitions. The United Kingdom Practical Shooting Association ran safety courses and at that time you had to have one of their "safety Certificates" to compete in a UKPSA competition. For whatever reason Mini Rifle is not as popular with the UKPSA members as it once was, but with the introduction of the new "tacticool".22's and the outrageous cost of ammunition, interest is expected to rise again, The guns have been mainly custom built Ruger 10/22 Rifles fitted with red dot although any standard .22 Rifle is acceptable to use. With the GSG 5 coming to the UK last year and the Spikes now also available, and the S&W and Colt arriving any day, a new wave of shooters who may never have shot pistols, or been UKPSA members, are wanting competitions to shoot these guns in. Some may argue that they are not accurate enough to do target competitions; others want a different style of competition, based more on the Practical shooting scene, and where they can use their larger capacity magazines to good effect. As such, Mini Rifle uses a smaller version of the “coffin†target, which can be set up at any safe distance, as opposed to the Bulls eye type target used in Gallery Rifle which will be set up at known set ranges. The target size is almost the size of an A4 sheet of paper It is shot at from 50mts down to 10mts depending on the course of fire. It would be all to easy to shoot straight A's, so in practical shooting you are also against the clock. The score is divided by time taken. If you miss, it has a penalty of minus 10 points. Normally, the highest two shots in each target count. For the US readers: After the pistol ban, shooting in the UK has largely tried to stay away from any image which the Media would portray as us being blood thirsty Rambo’s. So with the exception of hunters, most ranges ban the wearing of camouflage clothing and the “all black†commando’s. Targets have all been de humanized with various successes.

Let us know if your club runs open Mini Rifle Competitions and post the details here - as far in advance as possible to obtain as many entries as possible and let us arrange our diaries.

Does anyone know if there is a definite set of rules for Mini Rifle Competitions, or do they change from club to club?

I did a Nordic build around my 10/22 last year. In the end it did not offer me any better handling or recoil absorbing qualities than any stock 10/22. What I will say is that it ended up being so heavy I was having difficulty using it in competitions. One of the things I particularly did not like was the difficulty in taking everything apart. If you got crud in your action you could not disappear for two minutes and sort everything out. And when you did take it apart you had to re zero your sights every time. I know the sight rail is suppose to be the same hight as a AR15, but I found difficulty in getting my scopes to go that low. I was lucky that when I decided to ditch the Nordic components part and the furniture, the $ to £ rate had changed and I sold it all for more than I bought it for! Currently looking at a Spikes, which will be much easier to pop open and clean during competitions with no loss of zero. As she was with the Nordic on As she is now And as she was when I got her

That triangle looks interesting, I wonder if you can see your "targets" behind it? The British SA80 uses the SUSAT sight which has a post. The initial complaint was that it was thick enough for you to not see someone stood in front of you at certain distances. They have changed the design by making a window in the post now, which keeps the soldiers happy (er) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SUSAT

Great to have you on board,

It is not difficult to buy, either from a Registered Firearms Dealer or another FAC holder, as long as you have the necessary paperwork. This sometimes causes frustrations when you are in the right place at the right time but have not got the permission to purchase on your FAC. The biggest pain is the lack of Shooting industry in the UK, so you have to travel far and wide to find what you are looking for. With a few exceptions, the internet is not widely used by dealers, which I think is another nail in their coffin. Certainly we do not have the shops with the floor space we imagine you guys have. Trying to find all the equipment you might be interested in purchasing in one place is almost unheard of and we certainly do not have anything like firearms etc on sale in general stores like you have (had) in Walmart.
