Sweet! You wear a handgun on your belt in Canada and leave your property, you will get arrested and never touch a gun again in your life...... We need a special permit to take it from our house to the gun-club. If you do not have a club, you can't buy them (even if you're licenced....) Jan :P

The "BASTARDS" are gone for a long time now...... My generation, growing up in Germany today, has nothing, absolutely nothing to do with the 2 big wars. Just as a reminder............. Every German my age will agree on one side, that money had to be paid for the damage caused in the 2 wars. But - when will that be done? When will people understand that Germans today are NOT connected to the "Reich" or "Nazi-Germany"? I was asked by a Canadian teenager a few month ago if I really hate jews........ well, where did she learn that? Back to the topic, I have deepest respect for men like Claude Choules, another victim of a time we just can't imagine to live in. My dad told me stories about him, fighting at the Eastern Front when he just turned 16..... A miracle that he survived - and a victim of the war as well, he screamed in his sleep 40 years later. Good point. I ended up with the Savage 93 in 22 Magnum and the Bushnell Trophy Red Dot. Lots of fun (!) to shoot with the Red Dot, but I can tell that the rifle outperforms the scope....... my plan now is to get (finally) a tactical 22 (most likely the Ruger SR22), put the Red Dot on that one, and get a good scope with magnification for the Savage (which by the way I love!!!). So - who has the best anti-terror team in the world? Nations compete all the time on that one...... Some say the British SAS is all the way up there, others the German GSG 9, the Israelis, the United States? Guess I know what you guys will answer....... ;D Really interesting though to see how this teams developed over the years, in my home-country Germany the police was not prepared for anything like that. After the disaster at the Olympics 1972 in Munich, where policeman climbed roofs in orange fitness clothes, and shot each other at the showdown on the Fuerstenfeldbruck airport - they founded the GSG9, trained this guys and were ready to go and successfull in getting out the plane-hostages in Mogadishu in 1977....... today one of the most respected anti terror units in the world. Not sure if this guys use 22.' though ....., I might be a bit off-topic here..... ;D Jan

Yeah Christmas is over..... today on boxing day, I took my new toy out for a spin. Just put the first 50 rounds of CCI ammo through! OK, that thing is serious fun, a good step up from the 22LR, and shooting with that Bushnell Red Dot is awesome!!! 50 rounds and not one feeding problem, guess I can stick with that ammo. Just have to zero in the scope, and the squirrels will drop like flies! :-) Jan

Hi! Just came back from Ellwood Epps, where I picked up a Savage 93F in 22 WMR, and mounted a Bushnell Trophy Red Dot scope. The Bushnell fits great on the bolt action, one of the few Red Dot's that come with scope rings - and they are high enough to work the action without touching the scope. I decided to stick with Savage (good experience so far), and took the 22 WMR over the 17 HMR. That was a last minute decision, they had both calibers in stock, the price is identical. Red Dot - just so much fun to shoot with it. This one is the version where I can switch between 4 different sights.... Take it out the first time tomorrow and will let you know! Man, isn't that great? I am 42 years old, and when I buy a gun, I feel like a 6 years old on christmas morning....... So it's worth every cent! Jan

Thanks! 17HMR is a funny caliber....... in my opinion still affordable, way more performance then the .22, a very good compromise for affordable target-shooting. Others say it makes no sense at all, compared to the .22 way to expensive, and for precision shooting not good enough. The price for .223 ammo is not far off, and those ones are really a different world! Well, I guess there are always (at least) 2 opinions. Reality is (for me), I will never shoot targets in a 1000 yards distance, I can afford the 17 HMR ammo as well, most people say it's a lot of fun to shoot them, the rifles are way cheaper then CF's, talking about reliability - my life does NOT depend on the functions of my rifle, and - again - it's just another rifle in the collection! Hi there, still shopping for the new toy - now I changed my mind and will keep my Savage 64 (22LR) and want to add a 17 HMR. Question is - does a Red Dot scope makes sense on a rifle like that? In my opinion it does on a .22, with the limited range of maybe 100 meters I do not need any magnification...... now - a 17 HMR's range is maybe double, ..... still possible to shoot with a Red Dot? I would say yes, still not a "long range"-rifle, and shooting with a Red Dot is just too much fun. Any input on that? Does anyone shoot a 17HMR with a Red Dot mounted? Or is there another optic I am not thinking about (besides the classic scope)? Let me know! Thanks, Jan

I will go in the store next week and check the 10/22's and just pick the one I like the best. The tactical would be nice because I can just mount my red dot scope, the compact is nice and small, the carabine on sale for $ 239.00, and so on, and so on. At the end I will propably nuy them all 3. ;D Thanks! Jan

Hi guys! As mentioned before - I am looking into "tactical 22's" right now - but as more as I am checking, the more I fall in love with the "simple" 10/22, especially with the 10/22 compact with hardwood stock. Not exactly "tactical", but - nice !!! Ellwwod Epps offers this model for $277.29 (CDN), a fair price I think. Quality of - and assecories for this rifle are fantastic, my Savage 64 which is more trouble then fun would be a trade-in. What do you think? A good choice? Or is there a good reason to pick a different 10/22? Thanks, Jan

My wife loves her garden........ her tomatoes are legendary. Last summer she asked me to safe the 3 huge ones, because my dog keeps eating them from the bush...... I saved them from the dog, picked them and used them to adjust my scope on my Savage 64. After 20 minutes I was all set, hit that tomatoe from 200 feet no problem. My wife still hates me for that ..... ;D Jan
