Pirate
I currently own two 99M1’s and one 989M2 and I am always on the lookout for good examples of these great little rifles. My good friend and co-worker Albert also shares the passion for these Marlin’s and he recently found us not one but two near pristine early production 989 M2’s. Both rifles are pre-68 non-serialized firearms. The rifle (1) with the beautiful Tiger striping on the stock was manufactured in 1965, the first year of production. Note the flat end of the stock at the barrel band location. Also note the two small screws on the left side of the receiver. I believe these screws are only on the first year of production rifles. The other rifle (2) was manufactured in 1966 and has the rounded front stock at the barrel band location. The Tiger stripped rifle is in near perfect condition and even has an original factory sticker still on the bottom of the front stock. It’s the best example of a 989M2 I have ever handled or observed. The bluing is flawless and it does not appear to have been disassembled since the screws are in perfect condition. The other rifle is not far behind in overall condition with only a couple of minor stock dings that are hardly noticeable. The bluing on this rifle is also near flawless. Both have the factory rear sight and one magazine each. I have not disassembled either rifle yet but the bores are bright and shiny on both rifles and mechanically they appear to be in like new condition. We are both thrilled to say the least to have found these rifles.[img width=800 height=865]http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y217/jimcope/Marlin%20989%20M2/519d6ecd-1e35-4af0-bdaf-98bd61531369_zps1b989f26.jpg[img width=800 height=671]http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y217/jimcope/Marlin%20989%20M2/d79636c2-278c-4457-bafc-46a4e276b307_zpsf8b8b775.jpg[img width=800 height=752]http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y217/jimcope/Marlin%20989%20M2/a3d7bc07-380a-4ef5-aec3-7873169acf6c_zps82fc9e02.jpg[img width=800 height=600]http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y217/jimcope/Marlin%20989%20M2/2273b97f-214f-4baf-98c4-4dc1f50db9f5_zps3e1d66d2.jpg[img width=800 height=600]http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y217/jimcope/Marlin%20989%20M2/9c17b2d4-6154-40ac-a7be-c80b74cbc327_zps78c07a0b.jpg[img width=800 height=469]http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y217/jimcope/Marlin%20989%20M2/e6988da2-7c83-4c85-a654-6a052fdc05de_zpsf41494aa.jpg
Microgunner
A couple of good looking rifles for sure, and you hit the lumber jackpot with the one. I've also always liked these Marlins although I've never owned one, to my recollection.
