Guys on another forum making their own barrel removal tool. Essentially a 1" tube with 4 prongs at 90 degrees each. These prongs are inserted into the barrel nut. Removing the barrel nut allows the barrel to come out. There is also a guy online making and selling a 15-22 barrel removal tool.
Takes a "special tool" to remove the barrel nut, then the barrel comes right off. Tool could have two "tabs" like in this picture, or possibly 4 "tabs" Maybe your friend could make the "special tool" and sell them. ;D
I had my barrel threaded (1/2 x 28) by Olde English Gun Shop in Tipp City OH. If you are interested, give them a call and ask for Andrew. 937-667-3325. Cost was ~$80.00 area, and turn around was less than a week.
