  1. My rifle is pretty accurate with decent ammo. Here is a group that was recently shot with CCI's "AR Tactical" ammo at 25 yards with an unmagnified dot sight from an improvised rest. With some optical magnification and a better rest, it would probably do better.
  2. Back when I bought my M&P15/22, the plain muzzle version was prevalent. In fact, I didn't even know that S&W had just started offering a flash hider equipped rifle until after the purchase. As a long time AR fan, the little M&P quickly won my approval on fun factor alone, even though the lack of a flash hider always bothered me. To my way of thinking, this was only a cosmetic fault but I always wished I had waited just a while longer before buying the rifle. That said, I really didn't want to bother with sending the rifle out to have the barrel threaded... Fast forward to last Friday. The True Shot Technologies web page appeared on my screen after clicking a link on another forum. Low and behold, owner Damon Oswald offers a nice looking slip-on flash hider that is custom made for the 15/22's .670" barrel. For the very reasonable sum of $20 shipped, I ordered the part. In blazing fashion, the package arrived today (Monday). To my delight, the flash hider is a very nicely made part that fits the barrel perfectly. The instructions are clear and complete. Damon even included the Loctite needed for the installation. The only thing I deviated from on the instrucions on was grinding the three set screw heads flush and rebluing the slip over band of the hider and the screws for a more finished look. The rifle looks great now (almost as good as a threaded installation). I am a happy camper. :) Link to True Shot Technologies M&P15/22 page (Note the front sight Damon makes. Makes me want to cut the rail on my rifle to carbine length and add a "real" AR front sight!) 3. Stingers are great fun in the M&P15/22, but dang they are pricey. Ten cents per round makes it a specialty load for most of us. Heck, you could shoot 9mm for that.
  4. My 555 experience has been far less than positive. It seems to tie guns up that usually run very well on other ammo. So far, three of my semi autos hate the stuff and it barely fits in the chambers of my M617 revolver. This is a shame because in the past Winchester 22LR has always worked well for me.
  5. Thanks everyone. :thumb: I am looking forward to some enjoyable discussion about our 22's.
  6. Shot some CCI "AR Tactical" in my M&P15/22 this afternoon. It feeds very smoothly and is accurate. Still, at .06/RD I think I'll stick with Federal Champion ($15.88/525 RDS at my LGS). The CCI just isn't worth twice the $$$, IMHO.
  7. CCI AR Tactical runs fine in my new M&P22 Pistol (not AR type). In fact, it eats them like candy. From what I can tell, the ammo is nothing more than standard copper plated round nose 22LR with a fair amount of wax. It does feed very smoothly in the M&P pistol. Next time I get a chance, I'll try it in the M&P15/22 as well.
  8. Hi all. Just found the forum earlier tonight and got registered. Glad to be here. My "tactical" 22s are a S&W M&P15/22 and the new M&P22 pistol. They are great fun and also helpful training guns in this day of outrageous ammo prices. I've already found some good info here. My 15/22 is an early gun without a flash hider. In my initial browse, I found a post with a link to True Shot Technologies. They make a nice slip on unit for $20. NICE!
