Tuned Up the Bottom Metals, changed the font to something with a little funk, a sharp engraving tool cleaned up the engraving, cut a recess for the action lug screw to keep a few more threads in the Action lug and increased the size of the radius's in the corners of the Mag Well hole

Thanks! the engraving is a little rough, crashed my sharp tool so I threw in a dull used one to keep running, will make a few edits, pick up a new tool, decide on a font and going to make a few!

Way cool! Have a micro sniper fantasy build in the back of my head! -
Taking Bottom Metals off the back burner, rolled a few prototypes out of the mill today. 1/8th inch thick Stainless, tried a few different fonts. have a idea on how to quantify how much the extra rigidity reduces deflection in the stock!

gotta love a nice day hanging out with fellow shooters!

The 35-150 are shot on a Prairie Chuck Silhouette Target, about the size of a soda can wide, touch taller. the 165 185 and 200 are 6 inch square with the 165 and 185 hung diamond and the 200 hung square. Any position, but I was the only one who shot from a table, everybody else shot prone.

The Savage and its new Vortex Scope and I tried our hand at this today, pretty cool deal. need a little practice and couple of week spots in my scope set up, but a little range time should help dial things in a little closer! Didn't come in last! String No. 1: On signal, the shooter will engage 10 targets in ascending order with one round each. The targets will be set at: 35yd (35pt), 50yd (50pts), 65yd (65pts), 80yd (80pts), 90yd (90pts), 100yd (100pts), 110yd (110pts), 120yd (120pts), 135yd (135pts) and 150yd (150pts). You will have a maximum of 3 minutes to engage all targets. If you hit your intended target, you will get their assigned point value; if you miss it or if you hit a target out of order, you just don't gain any points (no penalty for misses). String No. 2: On signal, the shooter will engage 10 targets in descending order with one round each. Starting with the 150yd target and ending on the 35yd target. You will have a maximum of 3 minutes to engage all targets. String No. 3: On signal, you must hit all 10 targets in ascending order. If you hit your intended target with your first shot, you get its full point value. If you don't hit it on your first shot but you hit it on the second shot, you receive 50% of the points. If you don't hit it on the second shot and you hit it on the third shot, you receive 25% of its value. If you don't hit your intended target on your third shot (or if you skip it), you will not receive that target's points value and you must continue shooting the next farthest target. You can bring to the line as many magazines as you deem necessary but each magazine can only be loaded with a maximum of 10 rounds each. You will have a maximum of three minutes for this string of fire. String No. 4: On signal, you will have one minute to rack up as many points as you can. You can engage the targets in any order you like but you can only engage each target once. If you hit it on your first shot, you get the target's full point value. If you miss it, you must engage a different target. Whether you hit or miss, you cannot engage the same target a second time. String No. 5: With a maximum of ten rounds loaded in your magazine, you will engage one target at 165 yards (165pts), another at 185 yards (185pts) and one at 200 yards (200pts). You can engage these targets in any order you want and, if you miss, you may continue shooting at them until you have either hit them or your ten rounds have been shot. Once you have hit a target, you will get its point value but you cannot engage the same target again. There is no time limit. The maximum amount of points you can earn on this string is 550 points.

Played a little hooky from work today, didn't have anything to pressing. As posted in the Savage Section, I put my Vortex Viper 6.5-20x44 Side Focus (BDC) on today, now the third scope I have mounted on it. Also as luck would have it, the Fed Ex truck brought my new Vortex Crossfire II 6-18x44 AO (V Brite Retical) that I purchased for the Ruger 77/22 Additionally I am doing a scope rotation, the 6-18 BSA that was on the Savage is now on the 10/22 and the 6x9 bsa that was on the 10/22 is most likely going to make it to my Marlin/Glenfied 60 squirrel stock rifle. All three were lapped in and leveled, still need to bore site the two bolt actions, but going to go out, do a 50 yard dial in and put um through their paces! But just for Microgunner, I put the black rings on the 10/22!
-
I am having a little fun with the two tone, with it being a stainless rifle.....but watch for Ruger pics shortly!
-
The Vortex Scope is a 30mm tube, so I machined up a new 30mm lapping tool, lapped in the rings and debured the edges! Will be putting it through its paces in the next few days!

Went with a set Leupold Rifleman Rings, wanted a set of rings that hopefully self center and also wanted a silver set! Would not be surprised if I end up with something windage adjustable down the road

A few projects and now a broken down CNC have prevented me from moving forward on my own bottom metals. But things may be taking another direction! I originally purchased this rifle for Small Bore Silhouettes not knowing the bull barrel would exclude it from hunter class (not that the match director really cares at this point) I picked up a Ruger 77/22 that may become my Silhouette Rifle. After learning about something called a Steel Dog Match, 35-200 yards, 13 different distance with prairie dog sized targets, thought I would set the Savage up to try this! When I purchased this rifle, I also bought a Vortex 6-20 scope that has just been sitting in a drawer, Decided this would be the next set up! Decided to go with the DIP Scope mount, if they would have had a stainless bottom metal in stock, just would have bought one

The Weig-A-Tinny arrived, it uses attachment screws on both side were it clamps to the rifle. guess the good thing , there may be a little adjustment there to align(windage) the mount, bad thing...I might have to align it! lol I did screw all the screws in tight on one side and then clamped it to the rifle. I have not hit the buy it now button on any scopes, but have pretty much decided to go with the Vortex Crossfire II. This evening. just couldn't stand it any more, flipped the levers on the scope rings on the Savage, lifted off the BSA, and set it on the Ruger and tightened the clamps. At 50 yards, it was only about 4-5 inches to the right and slightly high on a steel plate. with in three shots I had it dialed pretty dang close to my point of aim, shot three rounds that grouped very tightly still slightly to the right, gave it a few more clicks and put one round right on my point of aim. From there I moved to my spinners, put a couple on the big spinner, put a couple on the mid size spinner then went 9 out of 10 on the small spinner. Shot a little off hand, was tired, getting ate up by mosquitos... but first impression is this thing shots very well. The trigger must be lighter and/or has less travel then my Savage as I had several rounds go off while trying to preload the trigger! Looking forward to getting the rifle set up with the scope I think I am going to purchase and putting it on paper to see just what I have!

Today, it was about scopes, closed up shop this afternoon and off to the out door stores we went. I had it in my head that a Silver Scope would be cool, still do, but not many choices in a moderate priced scope, as I stated earlier, was giving consideration to a Mueller. My take away from todays excursion, after looking at a lot of scopes, prices across the board, I find myself leaning strongly towards a Vortex Cross Fire 6-18x44 AO. Then after getting home and looking it up on line, its available with a Illuminated center dot. Had the Vortex Side buy side with a Leupold and Ziess at 4 times the cost...and I still was pretty impressed with the inexpensive Vortex! Would love to see a Mueller in person, but have not encountered one yet!

I do like the Ruger rings...just not sure they are my best bet until I know exactly what scope and set up the rifle and myself settle on..if ever, the Wiengard set up seems to offer some cost effective versatility. Once I know what I want and like, good chance I might have a custom 1 off set up some day, all trued to the rifle! This Silhouette stuff is a challenge and I am enjoying the learning experience and the process! I have not dived in head first, but looks like we have a strong group in our area putting together regular matches at several clubs. I have only attended the one club so far. but I had fun!
