  1. You're kidding, right? Of COURSE I'm loving my 416. My Smith and Wesson MP 15/22 is crying out of loneliness and from being ignored. :bang: 500 rounds through it without a single malfunction. And I don't know about anyone else, but it was a breeze to clean. 15 minutes, start to finish. Takedown was a snap, literally, and it cleaned quick and well, using Hoppe's 9, a rag, a bore brush, patches, and of course, Hoppe's Gun Oil. And the oohs and aahs it gets at the range adds to the joy. :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: Way to go HK!. The 416D in .223 was the basis for the new USMC IAR (Infantry Automatic Rifle). They smoked the competition and the Corps is happy, happy, happy. ;D
  2. http://www.wholesalehunter.com/brand.asp?brand=7897 Try this link. Don't know if they still have any. Also, the Colt .22LR Tactical Rifle mags will fit. Gun made by Walther as is the HK, and imported by Umarex.
  3. Go to: http://www.wholesalehunter.com/brand.asp?brand=7897 HKParts.net has 20 round mags for $49.95 and 30 round mags are on back order. The ONLY complaint I have with the rifle, and it's a small one, is the bolt lock/release is cosmetic and not functional The Smith and Wesson MP 15/22, and yes, I have one of those too, has a fully functional bolt lock/release. It doesn't have a bolt assist for the obvious reason of unwanted detonation of a .22 LR rimfire should a bolt assist be used. Other than that, the rifle is great. The HK 416 D in .223 was the prototype to develop the Infantry Automatic Rifle that the USMC is now using. The oohs and ahs I got at the range on this weapon were many. People couldn't believe it was a .22 LR, The holographic sight from TruGlo is very easy to use and has four reticle choices, two color options: Green and Red, and varying brightness options. When used with the Magpul MBUS folding rear sight, it's a charm. They say that timing is everything and I guess I timed the purchase of the rifle and the magazines, as well as the ammo, just right. .22LR CCI Velocitor and AR Tactical ammo, as well as Stinger availability is nil here in the Denver, CO metro area. So is .223 and .308. Again, timing is critical. When the nonsense hit the fan as a result of Sandy Hook Elementary School, I bought 1,000 rounds of .223 tactical ammo from American Eagle in 100 round "economy" (yeah, right) boxes. Cost per round? .50 cents a round. At a recent gun show, the cheapest I saw .223 was 1,000 rounds for $750.00, or .75 cents a round. Our state legislature, God help us, is going to introduce legislation to ban all assault weapons without a grandfather clause. Same for limiting magazine capacities to 10 rounds, sans a grandfather clause. The race is on. but getting back on topic, the HK 416 D .22LR is by far one of the best, if not THE best, .22LR AR Tactical rifles out there. I'm sure there are some who would disagree, but that's fine. Enjoy the rifle. And for those who think these weapons are "toys", they need to see one in action. I'm planning on field testing the rifle and ammo for ballistic performance and lethality this spring and summer. Keep you posted.
  4. Just had my first opportunity to take my HK 416 for some range time. I put about 500 rounds through it, using three 30 round mags and the 20 round mag that came with the rifle. I fired, GASP, Remington Golden 22's, as well as CCI Stingers and AR Tactical through it Not a single malfunction, not a single failure to fire. I now have a holographic sight and Magpul MBUS pop up front and rear sights. The weapon performed flawlessly, and was extremely accurate out to 100 yards. Head shots, using a Transtar 1 target, put a group at less than an inch using a bipod for support. Same for center mass, less than an inch grouping. Wow. Now the better part. Got home, field stripped it per the manual, used Hoppes 9 and cleaned it out. What I noticed was there wasn't a whole lot of powder in the chamber or anywhere else. The rifle cleaned up in less than 15 minutes, to include clearing the bore with a bore brush and solvent, wiping out the chamber, mag well, and the entire weapon, and running patches through it, plus lubrication. Ran one solvent soaked patch and two dry patches at first. The second dry patch was slightly dirty, so I ran a third and it came out clean. Lubricated all of the required parts with Hoppes Gun Oil reassembled the rifle, inserted the little "blue pill" (I call it the Viagra plug) and decocked the weapon. It now sits, next to my Smith and Wesson MP 15/22 in the gun locker with a satisfied look on it. The Holographic sight is manufactured by TruGlo and works just fine, especially with the Magpul MBUS rear sight . I cannot say enough positive things about this rifle. As for the magazines, yes, they went up in price due to the panic buying resulting from the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting. Fortunately, I bought my three 30 round mags before the spike in price. The price doubled and then went down to the current $40 per mag up from the original $30 per mag. People shooting with me at the range all came up and wanted a look and some actually asked if they could handle the weapon. Two young men, college kids, in their mid 20's, both said they wanted to purchase one. they both claimed to have .223 AR's but loved this weapon. I have a bipod attached, a sling, the TruGlo Holographic sight, MBUS pop up front and rear sights, and dark earth rail covers. My thoughts are that using CCI Velocitor or Stinger would make this a reasonably, key word, formidable weapon. Not as formidable as a full .223 mind you, but still, an attention getter.
  5. Over 12 million voted in the survey to date and 97% said the 2nd Amendment gave individuals the right to bear arms. Duh. Ya' think?
  6. Having just watched Hollywood's latest hypocritical "public service ad", interspersed with scenes of gun violence perpetrated by the very actors who are demanding "a plan" and that it's "enough", I can't help but shake my head. If they're serious, REALLY serious, I'd like to see one, just one, actor come out and say: "Although I've made movies in the past that has had gun violence in it, I will no longer accept roles in any movie or program that promotes or has as a part of it, ANY gun violence." Of course this will never happen because they're hypocrites who cash in on the violence of Hollywood. Here's a thought. Let's start boycotting any and all movies that have gun violence in them. Hit 'em in the pocketbook. And see how they react.
  7. Walther P-55 is on back order for an unspecified period of time. I've cancelled my order. Any suggestions as to a relatively cost effective red dot sight? ;D
  8. Happy New Year folks!
  9. Thank's Chad. Mags have gone up in price. Gee, I wonder why? Hmm. . . .
  10. Political Correctness, don't you know? All that's done is: A. Drive the price of AR's up; B. Driven customers to their competition.
  11. Based on all of the message traffic on the internet about assault weapon bans, magazine bans, etc, and the rumors that Dick's Sporting Goods allegedly pulled all of their AR-15's and similar long guns AND ACCESSORIES off the shelf, I walked into the Dick's Sporting Goods store in Aurora (Arapahoe Road and Parker Road for those of you who live in the Denver Area) and yep, it's TRUE. No magazines, no tactical gear as in bipods, rail guards, etc, and NO AR-15's or similar weapons. Asked the clerk about it and he said they no longer sell these types of weapons or their accessories. Asked the clerk if they were still selling .223 Remington. He said "yes, but I don't HAVE any." They're out of .223, .308, AND .22 LR. Went into Gander Mountain in Aurora, next. THEY still sell AR's. They simply don't HAVE any. Very little in .223, NO .308, and slim pickings in .22LR ammo. NO CCI Stinger. NO CCI Velocitor. NO CCI AR .22lr. Talked to "Joe" the manager and folks standing in line to purchase what's left which isn't much. One guy sporting a T Shirt that had the Soviet Star above "The People's Republic of Boulder", said "something's fixin' to go down, what, I don't know, but it's comin'." Ya think? It's interesting to see that the general population's reaction to the Sandy Hook Elementary School, Clackamas County Mall, Century 16 Theater, Virginia Tech, and Wisconsin Sikh Temple shootings, is to run out and buy the very weapons the MSM is decrying as being "destructive" and "evil". Wayne La Pierre said it best: "The only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is with a good guy with a gun". Price of .223 here in Colorado is a buck a bullet. Supply and demand. .22 LR is going up as well. You can't BUY .308 for it isn't available. Sold out here in the Denver area. Happy New Year's one and all! Keep your powder dry. (oops, EVIL emoticon, don't you know?)
  12. Ya think? ;D Trying to figure out how this knee JERK reaction to the latest spate of stupidity will manifest itself. Will it be a total BAN on AW's, or just future sales, taxing the guns and ammo for them, requiring an ATF license much like a Class 3 license. Or a combination of the above. Mag capacity limits will be coming as well. From a purely selfish perspective, I hope that there will be an exemption for LEO's and RETIRED LEO's. The obvious solution is a sentencing enhancement for anyone who uses a firearm in the commission of a crime. Consider this, when Mr. Roberts in Clackamas County was confronted with a CCW permit holder who drew down on him, he killed himself. When the cops were responding to Sandy Hook Elementary, Mr. Lanza killed himself. When Mr. Holmes heard the Aurora PD responding, he surrendered. When the Sikh Temple shooter heard the cops responding, he killed himself. The inescapable conclusion is that these COWARDS, when confronted with good guys with guns, either off themselves or surrender. Hmmm. . . . where did I hear this before? Oh yeah, Wayne La Pierre of the NRA who said: "The only person that can stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun". And the NY Times and Daily News and others ridiculed him. Uh-huh. They CAN'T support the "La Pierre doctrine". The reason why is that to support it would require everyone to be armed. And we can't have that because the ultimate objective is to DISARM the law abiding citizens of this country so that those who wish to establish a socialist republic can do so without fear of any resistance. Merry Christmas, one and all.
  13. The difference between men and boys is the cost of their toys. ;D I've ordered the following: Walther P-55 red dot for the HK Rail guards Rail riser for the HK bipod front pistol grip folding sights front and rear one set each for the HK and S&W TruGlo 4x42 lighted reticle.
  14. EEYORE, I noticed you were in the stores in Thornton, and wonder if you live in Adams County? Reason is that I'm planning a POSSIBLE run for County Commissioner in 2014. If you do, let's get together in person to talk. Now, onto the issue at hand. Gun prices have gone up. Ammo is flying off the shelves. It's nuts. And it's going to get worse as time goes on. C:-)
  15. So we'll go from over 300 million guns to what? 400 million? I timed it right. Hope others did as well. Everyone have a Merry Christmas.
  16. Mine cost $539.00 new, in box, from Umarex. Got it through Denver Guns and Ammo. Bought three 30 round mags at $29.95 each. Cost of high cap mags have gone up by $20.00 through HKParts.net. C:-)
  17. OK, here's the question. Will the Umarex Colt AR-15 Tactical .22 mags fit the HK 416 D Tactical 22? I've heard that they are interchangeable. Is this correct?
  18. Just as an FYI, HKParts.net has raised the price of 20 round and thirty round magazines for the HK 416D 22lr by $20.00 going from $29.95 to $49.95 per magazine. 10 round mags are still $29.95.So, stand by, here it comes. :-[
  19. Well, it didn't take long for the "cause and effect" to happen. Last week, I ordered three 30 round mags from HKParts.net at $29.95 per unit. I received them the other day. TODAY, I went onto HKParts.net and the same magazines I ordered last week for $29.95 are now, get this, $49.95 per magazine. They went up $20 per unit. Everyone is seeing the handwriting on the wall. The only question is how "bad" will it get. Will ALL "Assault Weapons" be banned from sale? Will high capacity mags be banned as well? Or will they tax the hell out of them? What about those of us who have purchased "assault weapons"? Will they become illegal thereby making our enjoyment of them useless? Thoughts? C:-)
  20. First, the actions of Adam Lanza, James Holmes, Wade Michael Page, Jacob Tyler Roberts, among others, who have committed atrocious acts of murder, are indefensible, inexcusable, and simply evil. Second, our hearts, prayers, and thoughts go out to the victims of all of the tragedies that have befallen various communities throughout the United States over the past several years. Now, onto the meat of this post. To blame an inanimate object, such as a firearm, for the heinous and evil act of a human being is asinine. As it has been previously written on this forum, AWB's do not work. Yet this is the only thing the liberal left can think of. As such, it fits Einstein's definition of insanity. For they continue to do the same thing over and over again, hoping for or expecting a different result. I've read the CT statute regarding their AWB. The first paragraph defining an Assault Weapon is straight on and revolves around the fact that the assault weapon is a select fire weapon, to include fully automatic or burst mode. Then, it goes "South" by also including in the Assault Weapon definition all of the "evil" cosmetic features such as flash suppressors, collapsable stocks, pistol grips, bayonet lugs, and my personal favorite, grenade launcher (that's right, a grenade launcher). CT does not have a magazine capacity limit. The aforementioned adam henrys are to blame. Not society. We didn't "fail" them. Not the guns they used. THEY are the ones to blame. Here in CO, Mr. Holmes even told a psychologist or psychiatrist he fantasized about doing what he actually did and she did nothing to stop him. Dr. Patient confidentiality don't you know? After the Clackamas County mall shooting in Portland, I saw the handwriting on the wall. I had already gotten my M&P 15-22. My wife, God Bless her, said, and I quote: "If you think they're going to clamp down, go ahead and get the HK 416 D 22 and as many magazines as you can before they're no longer available." Friends and I have had discussions about this issue and they're ongoing. The AWB comes as no surprise. And the only thing that will come of it is a new income stream for the Cartels in Mexico. They smuggle drugs and people into this country. Now they'll add weapons. In November, I ran for the Colorado State Senate as a Republican, got the NRA endorsement, and lost to the incumbent, anti-gun Democrat. But not by much. I took 41% of the vote and there was a Libertarian third party candidate who took 5% of the vote. First time I ever ran for office. My plan, had I been elected, was to legislate sentencing enhancements for idiots who used firearms in the commission of a crime, that were exempt from "good time" or parole. There would have been a specific exemption for cases where the issue of self-defense was raised. But, since I didn't win, I guess we're up the creek so to speak, here in CO, where it's now legal to possess up to 30 grams of marijuana for 'personal use'. And one of our Congressmen, Ed Perlmutter, is leading the charge for an AWB in Congress. God help us. I'm simply bracing for the impact, for it seems that Obama and company are paying heed to the Rahm Emanuel axiom "Don't let a crisis go to waste". Hopefully, the NRA won't cave and roll over. Thoughts? Oh yeah, I forgot. I'm a retired Federal Agent, worked for DHS Immigration and Customs Enforcement. So, I'm read into "Fast and Furious". If the AWB goes through, the guns will be coming back into the US from Mexico, a reversal of Fast and Furious. It'll be Furious and Fast. And the idiots we've managed to elect don't see it. C:-)
  21. Nice orange box. Available in 50 round boxes and bricks. $2.97 per box of 50 rounds at Gander Mountain. C:-)
  22. Anyone have any experience with the Federal .22 LR Spitfire 31 grain, 1,500 FPS round? Gander Mountain sells them at 2.97 per box of fifty. My guess is that it's Federal's answer to CCI Stingers. Also, got my HK today. OMG, it's sweet. Will shoot it shortly.
  23. Yeah, I know the bolt catch AND the bolt assist are not functional. Other than that, it's extremely accurate as a clone to the "real" 416D which retails for well over $2,000. I am an advocate of the .22 LR cartridge and believe its been maligned for too long as being anemic. A well placed .22 LR shot will get the job done. C:-)

    CCI stingers

I'm about to pick up an HK 416D in .22LR. The manual and videos that cover field stripping show that the bolt assembly is not removable, and they discourage any serious strip down of the rifle. As such, I want to feed it CLEAN ammo. Aquila seems to have a reputation for being filthy and requiring extensive cleaning of one's weapon after firing. CCI is going to be my ammo brand until and unless something better comes along. C:-)
