imschur
If I can get the suppressors on order Monday the next call will be to Clark Custom. They informed me it's about a 10 day lead time. Not to shabby for a custom piece. I will be going with the 5.5" model. Pictures soon.
Microgunner
Can't wait.
imschur
Well I procrastinated the crap out of this. 7 months later I have the Silencerco Sparrow in hand and no threaded barrel for the S&W 41. I placed the order Friday. The nice folks at Clark Custom said I should have the barrel in hand in 3-4 weeks
imschur
Fedex says I will have my model 41 threaded barrel in 5 days
Microgunner
That didn't take too long.
imschur
I was quite shocked given what they told me on the phone
imschur
here it is
Microgunner
Damnation! That's one fine looking set up. No compromises, top shelf all the way. :thumb:
Microgunner
Have you gotten a sub sonic recoil spring for it, or is it reliable with the factory spring?
imschur
im still at the fondling stage. I have a small issue with the thread length. I need to fabricate a spacer. Should I make you one as well?
Microgunner
No. Just tell me how thick your spacer ends up being and I'll ask Clark to shorten my threads by that amount.
Microgunner
Or maybe I'll buy the threaded barrel for my CZ Kadet instead. By far my favorite "combat styled" rimfire pistol.
imschur
Had I known i would have asked for a shoulder. Im going to make a threaded spacer so the face of the barrel wont see wear from the suppressor.
Microgunner
A few scratches just makes it look....competent, as though someone was able to depend on it and so shows some wear, but not abuse.Back when I was into photography and camera bodies were made of plated or painted brass we used to lightly sand the corners of the bodies to "brass them up" making them look experienced. imschur
ok this is a known issue and Silencerco already makes the correct spacer for $10.5X28 Rifle Thread Spacer Many gun companies and gunsmiths make a common mistake and thread .22 lr barrels at AR15 thread lengths. Most .22 silencers on the market will not shoulder correctly on AR15 thread length. This spacer shortens AR15 thread length to .22 lr thread length while ensuring concentricity. Microgunner
So, the problem was what I originally thought, too much threads, or is the problem not enough threads allowing the suppressor to bottom out on the muzzle face causing scratches?
imschur
The threads on the barrel are too long which would allow over tightening and messing up the threads of the suppressor and maybe the barrel. The suppressor needs to tighten to a shoulder which would normally be the diameter of the barrel where the threads end.
Microgunner
Good thing to know.So what's the desired OA thread length for a rimfire suppressor?
imschur
I dont know but I am on a quest to find out.
imschur
Still havent fired this thing. Scope is on back order :(
imschur
Well I canceled the original scope order for the fixed NIKON FORCE 2X EER unit when I saw Cabela's had the NIKON FORCE XR HANDGUN SCOPE 2.5-8X28M EER in stock. Both models have been on backorder forever. Quite a bit more money and overkill for the Model 41. But I figure If I decide later that I want a BURRIS FASTFIRE III I can always use the Nikon scope on something centerfire in my collection. I ordered a set of low WARNE MAXIMA SCOPE RINGS. I should have both items in hand by Thursday, just in time for my 4 day weekend.
Microgunner
I've got a Fastfire II on my 41 and think it's a perfect fit.I hear the FF III is even better.
imschur
I pondered the Trijicon RMR but it's just so darn pricey. The FFIII is supposed to fix the shortcomings of the previous models. I want one for my FNP 45 Tactical too
imschur
Well I have the scope and scope rings in hand. I think I will finally be able to shoot this darn thing. Maybe this weekend.
imschur
Well it pays to pay attention to things like dimensions. Something I did not do.This scope is way to big for the model 41. The low rings wont allow me to install the suppressor. So once again i still cant shoot this thing. Add insult to injury I need to buy another handgun for this scope.
