Part II: Shooting Handguns

I decided we would shoot handguns first as I find a few hours of centerfire rifle affects my ability to shoot handguns well. All handgun shooting is at 25 yards.

FNP 45 Tactical - I was most anxious to shoot this pistol. We broke open a box of 100 Winchester USA 230 grain ball ammunition and began loading the 15 round magazines. These thing are a bitch the first few times. I loaded my first magazine and about the third round I got a stove pipe. Cleared that and emptied a magazine. Magazine two, two more stove pipes. I then noticed the barrel thread protector was about to fall off. stupidly I burnt my fingers screwing it back on. Somewhat concerning, loading a full magazine into the pistol with the slide locked back would result in the slide releasing. While this speeds reloads it did concern me as I have never seen a pistol operate in this manner. I felt this couldn't be a design characteristic but I should read the manual to verify.

Switching to Federal Gold Medal Match the pistol functioned flawlessly. The gun is quite comfortable and accurate. Though the slide release is not convenient for me.

I will be calling FN Monday.

Mario's Kimber 1911 - I'm not sure what model he had but its a stainless no frills 1911 that cost him about $1100. In his hands he was missing the target by feet. It was so bad he thought that something was wrong. The Kimber at up the Winchester USA ammo that my FN objected too. I loaded a few mags with the Federal GMM. I can honestly say I don't think I ever shot so well with a strange gun and a lot of rust. For Mario it was a good news bad news situation. He was glad to see the gun was quite accurate but disappointed that he sucked so bad. He still think Xbox 360 skills have some bearing on shooting skills.

SIG SAUER P226 Enhanced Elite - I didnt shoot this very much but the pistol did not like an old box of Federal American Eagle Ammunition. The bullets had a very flat nose. I believe that profile caused my several failures to feed. The pistol is very easy to shoot well. This remains one of my favorite handguns.

SIG SAUER Equinox - I'm not sure of the model because it was Mario's gun. It's a very sharp-looking pistol with the contrast of high polish and matte black. It was a chunky compact 9mm. A little to fat in the grip for my liking. The gun functioned flawlessly.

Para USA LDA PDA - This pistol pissed me off. I had hoped to get a lot of rounds through it as the gun is very tight and because of its size and being a .45acp it has a super strong recoil spring. All combined I can barely pull the slide back. Quite simply the gun fails to function. I managed to get one magazine through it. All other times something is preventing the trigger from actuating the hammer. I would like to know if it has a magazine disconnect. The mags when full are very difficult to fully seat.

I will be calling Para on Monday to discuss getting the pistol repaired

Glock 22 Gen 4 - Quite simply this pistol just works. Eats everything, functions flawlessly and is reasonably accurate. I just dint like the trigger, trigger position and the finger guard. That said I trust this thing 100 percent with my life. It just works.
