asmurff Posted July 3, 2012 Report Posted July 3, 2012 Now I have the .22 conversion kit, the .223 bolt carrier group spends more time out of the rifle than in it. I know they're pretty tough but does anyone know if there is a protective container sold by anyone to put one in?Right now it is in a zip lock bag in the gun cabinette, but I want to take it with me to the range so I can shoot some of the .22 and some .223.
imschur Posted July 3, 2012 Report Posted July 3, 2012 I never seen anything but Il bet a bit of pvc pipe and a threaded cap on one end might be sufficient. FWIW mine was kept in a magazine pocket in my rifle case for nearly 20 years without protection or damage
asmurff Posted July 4, 2012 Author Report Posted July 4, 2012 I didn't really think it needed any protection, beyond being lightly lube and put in the ziplock.
Dusty44 Posted September 11, 2012 Report Posted September 11, 2012 I would think the tool steel of the bolt and the carrier would be tougher than anything the BCG was likely to encounter. My concern would be for the gas key maybe getting bent? A section of plastic pipe and end caps sounds good. Maybe a plastic box from the supermarket where the food storage items are?? With a little foam of some kind or bubble wrap inside the box around the BCG- mostly to keep it from rattling?
asmurff Posted September 12, 2012 Author Report Posted September 12, 2012 I bought a piece of 1" pipe insulation and put it in that. I should protect short of me running over my range bag with my truck. The added plus to using the foal insulation is it still fits in the pocket of my range bag, where as a piece of PVC wouldn't.
