  1. The replicas I saw only had red dots or crosshairs but my exposure is limited. Some airsoft stores might be helpful
  2. Thats because the forum software automatically replaces links to that online auction site. The explanation is in the site news section of the forum. I learned first hand how anti gun they are and will do nothing to help them make another penny. I encourage you to shop elsewhere for the same products. Sorry for the trouble. Here is more in Google.
  3. Was it your wife that carries a .38?
  4. Jeez buddy that could have lead to a really bad day with all that unsupportd brass in the chamber. Someone was really watching out for you this day. Youth often has its advantages in shooting. Ill bet this just feeds your boys desire to shoot even more. Glad to hear your enjoying the sport. Wait until we get you into a Gibson L5 class 1911 ;D
  5. hell yeah
  6. http://www.alexanderarms.com/
  7. To me it looks like the slide stop notch appears to be milled at a very slight angle rather than 90 degess to the slide. Not sure if that's the design or not. Other than that the system appears to be fool proof regardless of my proof to the contrary. I cant seem to recreate it at home with an empty magazine.
  8. I'm a stickler for checking headspace in 308's even though it's a pain in the butt. This was verified by me. I have seen a few other cases at the 308 site that appear to be out of spec ammo. Im hoping this is the case. There were also a few issues with bolts themselves getting stuck. Highly unlikely here. I see something odd looking at the bolt lugs through the mag well. It almost looks like there is something foreign in there. Any time you build from DPMS parts you have to pay extra special attention to everything.
  9. I figured as much. I want the Trijicon at the Burris price ;D
  10. Thanks!! I think I got this from Madhouse when I bought his Spikes .22 conversion unit. First time using it.
  11. Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions? Burris Fastfire Trijicon RMR
  12. Well it happened with every magazine every time except once
  13. Part III - Rifles CMMG Sierra - After the dismal time with the handguns I decided I would start at the 50 yard rifle range with my CMMG Sierra. This was a mixed start. I found out the combination of my Sporter lower with the CMMG Sierra I could not use the gray CMMG mags. They got stuck in the lower and were difficult to remove. The Black Dogs fit and functioned flawlessly. This was the first out with the MagPul GEN 2 MBUS on the Sierra. At 50 yards I could not get enough adjustment. I had to aim at the target frame to hit the target 2 feet down on the frame. After a few rounds I adjusted the sights so that when I aimed at the intersection of two boards I could hit the bullseye. Dialed in my shooting while odd was stellar. I was pummeling the corner diamond on one of those high visibility sight in targets. I can't speak highly enough of the Sierra. Not a single malfunction of any sort with the Federal bulk. Not sure what to do about the sights. As a side note I once again forgot to try the 50 round drum or that heavy-duty magazine. AR-15 Upper - I swapped out the Sierra for an unfired tricked out AR-15 upper. This thing is sweet. It has a 16" WOA match barrel, Larue FFHG, Troy Battle Sights, EOTech 557 AR223, Young match BCG and a GG&G bipod. In the surprise of the day the EOTECH was nearly dead on. I was floored. I was having such a good time I forgot I wanted to get the battle sights aligned. Bushmaster ORC Carbon 15 - Mario's Bushmaster performed flawlessly. He has one of the Millet DMS scopes mounted. It's a great scope for the right money in the correct application. I know Im repeating myself but Millet has a winner with that optic. FN FS2000 - Mario was chomping at the bit to shoot the "Halo Gun". Unfortunately while he enjoyed the rifle he had a lot of cycling issues. It was either his CProducts magazines, technique or a combination of both. He had a lot of misfeeds and jams. I did notice he was resting the rifle on the magazine. I use the same brand magazines issue. When I shot the gun with the FN mags it functioned perfectly. The only issue I had was a floor plate kept falling off. First time I ever experienced that. The FS2000 is a blast to shoot. I had hoped to mount an Aimpoint CompM2 on the rifle and sight it in but that never happened as time was winding down and I still had one more rifle to go. DPMS LR-308/SASS/SI Defense - I was saving the best for last. I had an unfired 308 AR upper I built over the winter that needed function tested and a scope sighted in. I decided this rifle would be the home of a wonderful Leupold Microgunner helped me purchase a while back. Rather than use the new ammunition I bought for the trip I grabbed the bag of mystery 308 ammunition that I mentioned in my first post put one round in one PMAG and loaded a second to capacity. I lubed to receiver and the BCG, cycled the action many times and loaded the magazine with the single round. The rifle was previously bore sighted so I figured I would be on paper. Anyhow I got on target and squeezed the trigger. Click, no boom. I thought did I grab an empty magazine by accident? No there was only the two PMAGs. Well crap a dud. I go to cycle the action to clear the chamber only to find that the BCG is stuck. It appears that the bolt never completely locked and is now stuck. Insult to injury the bag of ammo that i thought I knew the origins of seems to be a hodge podge of military surplus that is unknown to me. I am so angry at myself and this day at this point. now we are out of time and the range office would not let me perform the mortar technique to clear the weapon so here it sits with a live round in the chamber. As a side note this also probably vindicates the CETME which would function on this ammunition.
  14. Blue Trail Range. These are the guys I posted about that were getting sued. They won the suit.
  15. Part II: Shooting Handguns I decided we would shoot handguns first as I find a few hours of centerfire rifle affects my ability to shoot handguns well. All handgun shooting is at 25 yards. FNP 45 Tactical - I was most anxious to shoot this pistol. We broke open a box of 100 Winchester USA 230 grain ball ammunition and began loading the 15 round magazines. These thing are a bitch the first few times. I loaded my first magazine and about the third round I got a stove pipe. Cleared that and emptied a magazine. Magazine two, two more stove pipes. I then noticed the barrel thread protector was about to fall off. stupidly I burnt my fingers screwing it back on. Somewhat concerning, loading a full magazine into the pistol with the slide locked back would result in the slide releasing. While this speeds reloads it did concern me as I have never seen a pistol operate in this manner. I felt this couldn't be a design characteristic but I should read the manual to verify. Switching to Federal Gold Medal Match the pistol functioned flawlessly. The gun is quite comfortable and accurate. Though the slide release is not convenient for me. I will be calling FN Monday. Mario's Kimber 1911 - I'm not sure what model he had but its a stainless no frills 1911 that cost him about $1100. In his hands he was missing the target by feet. It was so bad he thought that something was wrong. The Kimber at up the Winchester USA ammo that my FN objected too. I loaded a few mags with the Federal GMM. I can honestly say I don't think I ever shot so well with a strange gun and a lot of rust. For Mario it was a good news bad news situation. He was glad to see the gun was quite accurate but disappointed that he sucked so bad. He still think Xbox 360 skills have some bearing on shooting skills. SIG SAUER P226 Enhanced Elite - I didnt shoot this very much but the pistol did not like an old box of Federal American Eagle Ammunition. The bullets had a very flat nose. I believe that profile caused my several failures to feed. The pistol is very easy to shoot well. This remains one of my favorite handguns. SIG SAUER Equinox - I'm not sure of the model because it was Mario's gun. It's a very sharp-looking pistol with the contrast of high polish and matte black. It was a chunky compact 9mm. A little to fat in the grip for my liking. The gun functioned flawlessly. Para USA LDA PDA - This pistol pissed me off. I had hoped to get a lot of rounds through it as the gun is very tight and because of its size and being a .45acp it has a super strong recoil spring. All combined I can barely pull the slide back. Quite simply the gun fails to function. I managed to get one magazine through it. All other times something is preventing the trigger from actuating the hammer. I would like to know if it has a magazine disconnect. The mags when full are very difficult to fully seat. I will be calling Para on Monday to discuss getting the pistol repaired Glock 22 Gen 4 - Quite simply this pistol just works. Eats everything, functions flawlessly and is reasonably accurate. I just dint like the trigger, trigger position and the finger guard. That said I trust this thing 100 percent with my life. It just works.
  16. My day sucked enough that I'm going to break it up in to three posts. Part 1 Getting There: These days my typical shooting outings are very informal, squeezing in an hour or two where and when I can. In an unusual motion I agreed to a day long formal shooting session with a good friend Mario . I typically like to shoot alone but I like Mario and refer to him as my little brother. I felt somewhat obligated as I encouraged Mario to get his CCW permit, was with him for his first AR-15 and 1911. We set a date for Friday August 5. Mario also asked that I bring as many firearms as possible for him to try. Now this is probably not a big deal for most but for me it's a bit of a hassle. I live in a city with a high crime rate so all my shooting gear is either locked in the safe and stored in my various secret locations. I can only prep the night before as I am not comfortable leaving the guns out when I am not home. This would not be a big deal except that the night before Deb and I had planned to attend a local Italian Festival to eat Fried Dough and check out pretty ladies. I was a little hesitant to go to the festival as last year the food disagreed with me violently. But some times you have to do what you have to do to keep the peace. Thursday at the office was just dreadful. At about 4:30 I went to visit this site one last time before heading to the Italian Festival. The site was down, in fact all my sited that run off of databases were down. I thought to myself "Here we go" and "this is a sign" of how the next 36 hours is going to go. I quickly rebooted the server with no success. Sites were still down. It was now 5pm and I needed to get to the little womans house but I still needed to get a hold of the guys hosting the server. So a quick email and out the door I went. The little woman, Deb lives with her elderly parents about a 1/4 mile down the road from where we work. I arrive and as usual it's madhouse. Her father is a selfish, rotten, mean, miserable nasty old man. He's not supposed to let the cats out because the Coyotes eat them. so just to be an asshole he let "Blackie" out just before I got there. This essentially starts a predictable war of words, screaming and slamming. I bite my tongue. I check my phone, sites are still down. Now we are all looking for Blackie with full-blown hostilities still going on. Finally she shows up at the door and Deb grabs her. We pack Debs parents and off to the festival we go. The festival was nice until about 8pm when the type of visitors began to change. The Welfare Zombies and thugs began to arrive. We left. I was home by 9pm. I get home, log on to my pc to find the sites are back up and i have a note from tech support that they were unable to recreate my issue. Yeah whatever. I also have a message from Mario that he can't leave work until noon and he will meet me at 1pm. I reply I'm going to be there by 9 or 10am and I'll meet him at the range. I begin preparations. I had big plans. I wanted to swap several optics around between the weapons. This would require sighting everything in again. No problem as I have a few bore sighting tools including my favorite Leupold Zero Sight. I spend a few hours getting stuff ready and inspecting my weapons. I started to get excited about the prospect of shooting as I had some new and or upgraded hardware to try out. I put the Magpul Gen 2 MBUS on my CMMG Sierra .22lr upper, I had a new 308 AR upper as well as a few other items to try out. 4:30am I wake up in agony. The same agony I purchased at the Italian Festival the year before. Again I thought to myself "here we go one more sign about how this day is going to go". I got up around 8am Still not feeling well. There will be no getting to the range for 9am that for certain. I start loading the truck when I realized I forgot a few things. I packed about 500 rounds of .223 and nothing to fire it. I also forgot the spotting scope. I headed to the basement to grab the spotting scope. Along with it I found a one gallon Ziploc bag of .308 ammunition and about 200 rounds of .223. If I recall correctly the .308's were from my CETME stash but the gun just would function with the stuff. I wasnt too concerned as I don't buy crap ammunition. It was a safe assumption that it was most likely a generic from a domestic manufacturer. Anyhow once back in my apartment I grabbed ann AR-15 upper that had an EOTECH on it. The Optic needed sighted in and I could legally use that upper with the lower that was with my CMMG Sierra. I load the truck, still not feeling well. Suddenly I remember that the AR upper is missing a c-clip on the ejection port dust cover rod. Luckily I remember where I put it. I bring the upper back in the house. This clip busts my chops for about an hour. 10:30am - Still not feeling well I head out to my truck to program my GPS. I have a bad memory and I havent been to this range in 10 or so years. The GPS has gotten flakey with age. I need to remove the DVD and reinsert it to get it going. About this point I'm pretty aggravated. Wishing I borrowed Deb's 4runner, portable gps and pocket camera. I manage to get the gps working. I go to search for the address. The remote used for data entry doesn't work. I think no problem. I havent changed the batteries since winter. I replace the batteries and it still does nothing. No problem. When the original remote was stolen I ordered two spares. I grab the new remote, it works fine but the gps wont find the address. I head back in for the phone number because the gps can also search by phone number. That worked. I select the shortest route. I wasnt overly concerned because my android phone with google maps will work as a last resort. Noon - I email Mario I'm finally leaving. I still don't feel well so I swallow a few Amodium AD's. I grab my mobile phone. Freaking battery is dead and I can't locate my car charger. No big deal it was only to serve as a back up to my gps. I leave. According to my gps I will arrive at my destination at 12:27pm. Everything going well. The last turn tells me I'm on the correct road. With 1.4 miles remaining the correctly named road turns into a trail. Now I'm freaking pissed off this was the final straw. I have no clue how to get to the range, I'm in the middle of the woods and my phone is dead. I turn around and start driving. The gps begins giving me brand new directions. 10 minutes later I arrive at my destination which was a little funny because my gps was still telling me to go someplace else. As I pull in I see the cops parked on the road just outside the shooting range property. At this point I realize that I forgot to bring the registration document for my Colt Sporter which the State of CT deems an assault rifle. I sit on my tailgate and wait for Mario. After about 15 minutes I see the cops are stapling up "No Parking" signs because there is a pig roast at the range saturday. I breathe a sigh of relief. 1:15pm Mario arrives.
  17. Ok I couldnt find an explanation in the manual so I suspect I might have a problem. When the slide is locked back inserting a fresh magazine results in the slide automatically releasing.
  18. You not undertaking the challenge speaks volumes
  19. keeping with the tradition of the rotten day of shooting today my FS2000 struggled to feed. Im not sure if it was the shooter or the magazine. My buddy may have been resting the weapon on the mag. Not sure if that would cause the problem or not. He was also using a C Products Mag from his stash. Not sure if that was the culprit either. I have used my own CP without issue. Changing operators and magazines solved the isssue. It ran fine for me. In another first the floor plate kept falling off the FN supplied magazine.
  20. I found some Federal American Eagle in my ammo stash. I forgot to note the weight but they had a flat nose. My Sig despised this stuff. Constant failures to feed. Fortunately the Glock 22 ate it up
  21. The pistol absolutely despised Winchester USA 230 grain ball ammo. Many frustrating stove pipe jams. On the other hand it devoured Federal Gold Medal Match. The gun is very accurate, low recoil and a joy to shoot. It did exibit an unexpected behavior but I want to check the manual before I say anything. The magazines are a bitch to get 15 rounds in. The mags feel like they are teflon coated or something, combined with sweat that added to the magazine difficulty. As expected it did get easier as the day went on. I love this gun.

    My Glock 22

Since getting this gone a few months ago I havent put many rounds through it. Today I ran it a lot. The gun functions flawlessly, it's accurate and easy to control. The Glock trigger just aint for me.
  23. This thing gave me fits today. Something is preventing it from firing. Im not sure if it's the grip safety or maybe there is a no magazine safety or something but I only managed to get one magazine through it. Most of the time depressing the trigger would not cock the hammer. Being a double action only firearm the malfunction turns the weapon into a paper weight. Monday Im calling the factory
  24. I had a pretty crappy day shooting today. The CMMG Sierra was the bright spot. I was shooting pretty darn good with iron sights at 50 yards. Not a single misfeed or malfunction of any type. I did have an issue with the MagPul GEN 2 MBUS but Ill save that for another thread. This unit has not has been flawless to date. I cant recomend it enough.
  25. 14 is the old standard
