    CMMG mags

CMMG discussing their new mags. Skip to the third minute, that's where he talks about the mags.
  2. I don't know, Kilibreau. Off hand, I'nd agree with you, just makes sense the plated stuff would be cleaner. However, my weapon prefers the lead projectiles. I'm guessing they obturate very well, and they are very reliable even in quantity.
  3. Great, good deal. I am curious. Odd about these coincidences. I'd ordered some bullets from a place back in October, and still have no bullets. Emails back and forth, but no bullets. So last I ordered some from Rim Rock. Well, they say they shipped them this morning. I look on the credit card statement, and what do you know it looks like the other place shipped them as well.
  4. If you do, let us know what you think. I'll likely pick up a couple of these this summer and it'd be nice to have to have an opinion on them beforehand.
  5. The Wooden Bowl A frail old man went to live with his son, daughter-in-law, and four-year-old grandson. The old man's hands trembled, his eyesight was blurred, and his step faltered. The family ate together at the table. But the elderly grandfather's shaky hands and failing sight made eating difficult. Peas rolled off his spoon onto the floor. When he grasped the glass, milk spilled on the tablecloth. The son and daughter-in-law became irritated with the mess. 'We must do something about father,' said the son. 'I've had enough of his spilled milk, noisy eating, and food on the floor.' So the husband and wife set a small table in the corner. There, Grandfather ate alone while the rest of the family enjoyed dinner. Since Grandfather had broken a dish or two, his food was served in a wooden bowl. When the family glanced in Grandfather's direction, sometimes he had a tear in his eye as he sat alone. Still, the only words the couple had for him were sharp admonitions when he dropped a fork or spilled food. The four-year-old watched it all in silence. One evening before supper, the father noticed his son playing with wood scraps on the floor. He asked the child sweetly, 'What are you making?' Just as sweetly, the boy responded, 'Oh, I am making a little bowl for you and Mama to eat your food in when I grow up. ' The four-year-old smiled and went back to work.
  6. The scope not being parallel to the barrel, is that what we're talking here? Or, the crossharis tilted left or right? What is the ultimate way to mount a scope?

  8. When I go south I drive by "Head Smashed In", but the origin is known, so I guess it doesn't count.
  9. I second Longitude Zero. Frankly, the whole security theater reminds me of gun control. Instead of dealing with the few lunatics everyone is targeted. It's just crazy.
  10. I imagine you were a little worried when you got started? How long did that take?
  11. You can get mighty hot in coveralls if it's not cold enough. Coveralls are good, but the bibs are more versatile. Carhartt's makes good stuff, I like their plan caps as well as their thermal hoodies.
  12. ja, looks great
  13. You can't target/buy CCI, you'd have to go for the parent company; but I know what you're saying.

    Nuke it

http://www.carloslabs.com/node/20 Find your city. Select the yield. Nuke it. Are ye toast?
  15. By coincidence, someone just posted Beretta 21A Walther P22 Dickson revolver Factory FPS Spec (16" test bbl) velocities, in a nice little table on another forum. http://www.hipointfirearmsforums.com/Forum/index.php/topic,32913.0.html The 21A has some pretty slow velocities. I don't recall exactly, but the .22 rimfires only need a very short barrel to reach max velocities. Anybody know what that barrel length is?
  16. I've got a brother in corrections, and the old man retired from the field, albeit both in Colorado. It appears to be a growth industry, they were building facilities all the time a while back, and one would think you'll do alright. Turned out to be a lot of travel, and I remember the old man just wound up renting an apartment where he worked and only came back on weekends. Worked out OK for him, as he'd retired from the Army as well, so he's a triple-dipper now collecting SS, State and Fed retirement checks.
  17. The Mosin wouldn't be a bad gun to use for inexpensive hunting. You never know what the barrel size is for sure with these old guns. It's supposed to be .310, and you can get the 123 grainers for the 7.62x39 for it, and they may shoot ok. Remington makes a .310 180 gr bullet, that would probably shoot better. And if your barrel is a bit large, then there's also the 303 bullets in .311 and .312 out there. And, you can get lead bullets in different sizes as well. I guess what I'm saying is that it'll be about as easy to get a decent load with the rifle as is possible. Well, geez. I don't have a Nosin, but I'm getting one now. :)

  20. Aha aha aha! I didn't know that. The fed bulk is killer in my spike's. Runs like a dream. It's reliable as can be. I've always wondered why folks were having trouble with the stuff, when I thought it was great. http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_1Ikrk5VwJoI/ScKwtuIVjbI/AAAAAAAAAJY/kdtibB7R8SY/s1600-h/111.jpg (That URL will not post as pic here, no idea why not) Anyway: upper left = CCI stingers upper right = Remington bulk bottom right = CCI blazer bulk blazer bulk identical to federal champion target at 25 yards 3x power 20 ea mag, except stingers, for ea group Remington troublesome, stovepipes CCI reliable Blazer reliable and accurate
  21. Anybody buy a gun at Walmart lately? Did you get escorted to the front entrance? Why do they do that? I also bought a ammo at the other grocery store int town. They escorted me to the the cashier at the store exit. I figured that was because they have a lot of shoplifters 'though. Is there some kind of new law that I don't know about, or is that Store policy?
  22. What are they saying? That'll go boom if it gets jarred? I've got a 700, although I haven't touched it in 15 years. I wouldn't trust CNBC to recognzie the truth if they fell in it, but if the original designer says something may be amiss I'd be willing to listen. I remember a story about a hunter in Alaska, who'd rested his 270 on a big rock. Well, it slid off, and whien it did it went off. What I distinctly remember is that the guy said it felt like getting hit by a giant hammer. He survived, but only because he got lucky as far as where he was hit and that he had fellow hunters with him. I have an SKS that did go off one me when I laid it on a stump. I was bending over toward my front, but the barrel was pointing toward the hill and a foot and half in front of me. Last time I ever shot that thing. I chucked that into the attic about 18 years ago, I think it was. Remember reading something about bolt and the firing pin, and making super sure it was free of cosmoline. I should square that away before somebody else gets a hold of it, for sure.
  23. Geez, guy, you're not cheering me up, as I'm getting into that age range as well. Maybe you can go left handed?
  24. Well, nobody really knows what you'd really put on your rifle if you had the chance to try out all the options that are available. I'll tell you what I'd put on the rifle. A Primary Arms M4 Style Red Dot. Anybody under 40 with normal eyes should be plenty accurate with that. And acquiring a target is fast. The sight isn't too expensive, being a clone and I haven't seen much negative stuff about it. I have one, I like it. So far, it seems a pretty reasonable cost/quality trade-off. For low power magnification I'd spring for at least a Weaver 1x3 classic. For low power magnification and a glowing dot? I'd do at at least a Millet DMS. A shot of the Red dot reticle:
  25. Actually, you don't have the freedom to 'not associate'. There are plenty of laws dictating how folks must conduct their business and with whom.
