Savage MK II Personalization and Accuracy Journey
Microgunner replied to eeyore's topic in Savage Arms
That's the right way to set up a set of rings. Looks good, although I think black rings on a black scope look better. But that's completely superfluous. -
I've been reading a lot of people praising the Vortex scopes. Just make sure the minimum focusing distance is suitable for rimfires.

Amen

I don't know, those Ruger rings are pretty good. The lack of one extra connection to the receiver makes them very sturdy. I would have stuck with the Rugers.

Good looking rifle, thanks for the pics. +1 on the Colibre.

Good to hear. Pics are mandatory.

Good info and welcome to Tactical 22.
-
That is a good deal. What a difference a little time makes.

Your word smith-fu is impressive Grasshopper.

You know, whenever I shoot my very attractive and hyper accurate Anschutzes their price tag doesn't even cross my mind.
-
I own one CZ, a 452 Varmint. I purchased it several years back when these rifles were a bargain. It's a good shooter but no longer sold at the give away price they once were. But even at their current prices I believe they represent a good value.

I've owned two, both blued and walnut. They were very smooth and attractive rifles that inspired a high degree of ownership pride. They were good, reliable, accurate field rifles with the best magazine system for a bolt 22. The triggers were average at best though and required reworking. I used Volquartsen parts. I've been thinking of getting another one recently. I believe you can get just as much accuracy for half the money if appearance isn't a prime concern. Since buying these Rugers many years ago I've discovered Anschutzes. You can buy a far more accurate used Anschutz for the price of a new 77/22.

That sucks brother. How many guitars have you added?
-
At least they've finally gotten started. The sooner you get it back the sooner you can sell it towards that new Stingray.
-
Glad to hear the good news. I wish I'd never stopped riding my bicycle when I got my driver's license, it'll keep you young forever.

Bought a CMC 3.5# drop in trigger for this rifle. The Spike's Tactical trigger in it left a lot to desired. The 22s don't generally like to function with these light triggers but I've installed a Tactical Solutions perfected firing pin in this rifle that's supposed to resolve this issue. We'll see.

Welcome from Florida. The 15-22 is a fine and fun firearm. And yes, those rails aren't back scratchers. We'll enjoy the pics. We like pics. Pics.

Yeah, the screw together rods are okay if you're careful. It's all I used for many years, but the one piece rods and pull through systems are better, so if I have the choice I'll choose the better. You'll never see a serious competitor cleaning their competition firearm with a screw together rod. Pull through systems also allow easier breech to muzzle cleaning for many firearms.

This is my CMMG Sierra dedicated .22lr upper mounted on it's Spike's Tactical lower. It has a Bushnell Halosight, YHM gas block riser, Magpul BUIS front and rear, Magpul grip, Catch 22 bolt catch, Tactical Solutions firing pin and Black Dog Machine magazines. I love this little rifle, it works great. One thing that was bothering me was the cheap plastic charging handle that came with the upper and after seeing a mod elsewhere I thought it was time to mitigate this shortcoming. I purchased a Rainer Arms Raptor Ambidextrous charging handle for the 22. (the same one I use with my centerfire ARs) It's a very good charging handle but the dedicated 22 charging handles have the channel underneath filled so the tiny rimfire brass doesn't get caught there jamming the rifle. I used JB Weld Steel Putty to fill the channel on the Raptor and then sanded to contour. Looks great and works great. Original vs Raptor. Top. Bottom Top view installed Side views

May have to join you.

True. Are you sure the front sight isn't adjustable?
-
Hey! My ex-wives gave me that nickname. I always thought they were referring to my passion for rimfires.

Strictly heterosexual. But for you I might consider switching teams. 8)

I'd get laid.
