Handgaurd light buld replacement
Popcop45 replied to 447MSGT's topic in GSG-522, GSG-5 Mods and Upgrades
I was just going to post a topic on lighted handguard. I've been going crazy looking for one that won't tip the $100 mark like the super expensive Surefire 628 series. I found this article about MP5 handguards http://www.arniesairsoft.co.uk/reviews/mp5tac_handguard/mp5tac_guarder_review.htm. That Guarder model is only sold by the one web site and it seems you have to fax the order. I haven't found any web site that has the CA in stock yet. How is the quality of the handguard itself? -
I understand both bdavision and Alex's points are well taken. Where the .22 lacks the energy to stop the opponent, but people choose it for it's almost zero recoil, giving them the confidence to place multiple rounds into the threat target. I practice home invasion scenarios in my house all the time. I own several weapons as you guys might imagine. A shot gun has the most 'stop 'em dead in their tracks' power-HOWEVER, in the event an intruder entered a kids room; I could not bring myself to fire a shot gun anywhere near my kids. Whether it is buck (scattering bb's) or slug (lose wads). My Mini 14's .223 is way too penetrating for a house encounter (although I would use it of course). My M&P 45 would be ideal for an intruder coming in through a bedroom window; but I will tell you this from speaking with ER Surgeons; a few rapid fire heads shots with .22 and you are going down; no matter how high the perpetrator might be. In fact, one doctor saw a patient that was shot in the head with a .22 FMJ and the round made a W figure through the brain. The doctor stated the guy was dead before his knees hit the ground. Also .22's have been used in a couple of fatal school shootings most notably the Virgina Tech incident where the sick bastard use a Walther P22 & Glock 19 fired 170 rds killing 30.

Very nice. What brand stock is that you're sporting on there?

Has anyone else blued their GSG-5 barrel? I am using Shooter Solutions Rugged Gun Blue (Only $14). I don't know why the barrel came un-blued in the first place but, I didn't like the flash hider of my GSG-5P and that short chrome barrel sticking out looked ugly, so I decided it was time to get down to some bluing. Navy 3 lug will cover it, but $70 bucks for that will have to wait a while.

Screw upgrade kit installation instructions
Popcop45 replied to Madhouse's topic in GSG-522, GSG-5 Mods and Upgrades
Excellent point. The nuts will just be there hanging on a few threads. I'll save the nuts in the event that the receiver threads ever give out. Anyone out there torquing the reviver screws? -
With the template on the ICS, place the trigger assembly inside and line it up like he did on the video. Once your sure your template is lined up with the serial number plate, mark it with an exact o knife. Remember it's better to be too shallow than too deep. You should be good to go. Good Luck.

Not yet. I am getting ready to order a MP5 magazine soon. I found this in my research though... http://www.weaponeer.net/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=11132&PN=1 ...notice how the MP5 magazine appears slightly wider.
-
Make a template for the serial number cut out. Don't do what he did on the video. Look closely, and you see how he messed up the cut on the ICS lower. You only have one shot at it or it's 30 bucks down the drain.

The neoprenes or the delrin?

I also have the buffer from rrages. This is just one of the areas where the manufacturer forgot a mandatory piece. If you look at the Armorer's manual of H&K MP5 you can see the buffer is built in the cocking tube. Another thing that I found amazing when I looked at the Armorers manual is the fact that a MP5 has a total of three screws; versus 15 + for the GSG-5. I've been around guns 29 years I don't recall ever seeing a firearm with this many screws. Have you? By the way the buffer works great- Got around 800 rounds through mine no problem and no wear.

What type of ammo are you using? Have you tested them on any type thick skull game? Reason why I am asking is I would like to equip my GSG-5P for home defense for my wife while I am at work. I hear that CCI Velocitor is pretty good expanding load and that CCI Segmented Hollow Point breaks into three pieces after penetration, but your are right, you need to penetrate bone and give the round at least a chance to ricochet off bone and do some more organ damage.

I wanted to share this with all my fellow GSG-5 owners. For those of you who haven't read this;I think you will find this pretty interesting. Oh, by the way, the .22 LR accounts for more human fatalities than ALL OTHER CALIBERS COMBINED! I saw a post in another forum (can't remember where) they modified the magazine capacity by cutting the follower over 1/4 inch. Extending the capacity to around 27 rounds. Still Ruger 10/22 mags are double stack 30 rounders and have been proven performers for years.

Collapsible stock installation instructions
Popcop45 replied to Madhouse's topic in GSG-522, GSG-5 Mods and Upgrades
The 16" minimum ATF requires has to be 'one piece'. That is why I chose GSG's MP5 over Umarex's. You can't SBR a Umarex carbine. The ATF stamp is $200.00 and you must follow the Form1 instructions to the letter, or your application will be rejected and you will be out $200.00. -
Wow, that must be single stack. They can't double stack .22 LR's?
-
Does anyone out there know what the deal is with the 22 round limit? Umarex MP5 also has a max 25 round mag. I know there is a 100 round drum for the GSG but I was wondering why not a standard 30 round mag like the ruger 10/22?
-
I was thinking alone the same lines as you-trying the air soft housing; but I am going to start with a real metal MP5 9mm housing (after market mags).
-
I spoke to a Umarex sales rep who advised me that the MP5 should be hitting retailers late this month around October 22nd. I too was going to wait for the Umarex MP5 but unfortunately they're not coming out with a pistol version (at least not yet) so you can't SBR one. I also received an inside scope that the Umarex is basically a 3rd gen GSG-5 with only a few differences.

No doubt we're all for easier and faster loading of the magazine. I just think the design takes away from the overall looks of a great MP5 clone weapon; that's just me. Believe me, I've been were I couldn't feel my thumbs after loading so many rounds at the range. ;D
-
I don't know how the rest of you guys feel about the magazines of this awesome MP5 clone, but I was quite disappointed in it's toy appearance. After all, this is a firearm. Just the fact that air soft MP5's have more realistic looking magazines was enough to get me into modifying my own real steel MP5 mags in 22 LR. I will post some pics when I am done.

I am so glad I found a .22 forum that's actually alive. I am a 42 y/o from South Fla. and have been around firearms since I was 12. I am a new GSG-5P owner (first .22 ever) and am looking forward to hearing from some of you guys out there, especially my fellow GSG-5 owners. I am in the process of SBR-ing it and upgrading some of the screws and pins. Take care yall.

I think it is so unfortunate, the magazine for the GSG-5 looks like a toys-r-us item. I don't see why they didn't just replicate the original magazine like air-soft companies do. GSG is no the only one on the ugly magazine bandwagon. S&W M&P 22 and a few other have that see through rail exposing the magazine spring and rounds when loaded. Get real, this is no toy.
