  1. Well, this weekend I went shooting again at the local gun range. I must say Im pretty pleased with the 522's accuracy, but it seems like it should be a bit tighter. I dont know if its the rifle, or just me having an issue with the long trigger pull. I guess Im used to match triggers, and I think thats the reason for the flyers. Its causing me some issues. Anyone know if there are some after market trigger groups for these things? Or do you think Im asking too much of the rifle? What have you guys been able to get out from this thing?
  2. asmurf....you should try one. You will like it. They really are incredibly fun to shoot. A word of warning though...once you try one, you will start justifying adding one to your collection.
  3. Yeah, Hoppe's is a rather potent smelling concoction of chemicals. I tend to clean them outdoors, which keeps the vapors down. It's still not as bad as medical grade Cyanoacrylate glue and accelerator though. That stuff will make you puke.
  4. Ive shot a ton of .22 pistols. My favorites are the Dan Wesson .22 that I own, The Trophy Citation, Hammerli 208S. There are so many really good match grade .22 pistols out there. The Trailside is fantastic for what it cost, but they quit making them, and parts are getting really hard to find. Mdl 41's, and the Ruger's are probably the most available and cost effective versions.
  5. Here are two blued Dan Wesson revolvers that have never seen anything other than Hoppe's 9 and RIG. One is a .22 with a 8" barrel, the other is .357 with a 6" barrel (heavy shroud).
  6. Id agree with that. Lenses are definitely where you should put the money in a camera setup.
  7. Beretta's are nice, but I hate that they have a tendancy to toss hot brass right behind my glasses.

I would highly recommend you go with a proven brand. Look for Western Arms, commonly referred to as WA. They make the top of the line gas-blowback pistols. Also, if you are looking for an exact match to your carry gun, WA makes it. They have nearly every pistol made in a airsoft version. The coolest one Ive seen is their copy of the Wilson Combat 1911's which are just plain awesome. Kimbers, Les Baer, Infinity, S&W, Ruger,etc...they've got it.
  9. The best way for the blued revolver is probably going to be just good old Hoppe's 9, and a toothbrush or kleen-bore brush. Nylon bristles, and a fair amount of scrubbing. Thats the way I clean my blued Dan Wesson revolvers. So far Ive not noticed any damage to the bluing, and Ive had them for 20 years or so.
  10. Do you know if they make the internal laser guiderod for the XD? If they do, Im thinking about picking one of these up for when I travel. I just dont like handing Delta or any other airline a $1200 1911.
  11. Yeah, they made that thing called the "Firestar" a while back. It was ok. It was rather small....It kicked like a mule though.
  12. The only ones I let near my guns are Hoppe's Nitro 9, Shooters Choice, and Sweet's 7.62 Bore Cleaner. All of these tend to work fine for me. For getting the lead out, I run patches of Kleen-Bore Lead removing cloth. Just keep it away from any blued surfaces. I lubricate the guns with "RIG", this stuff works great and is the only thing Ive found that 100% will not let anything rust if properly applied. Ive used RIG for over 20 years, and I will not use anything else. EVER...Period.
  13. Here's one of my favorites. Its a Star Super B 1911 styled pistol chambered for 9mm. These pistols are getting harder and harder to find in good quality. I picked this one up in Florida, from a gun show, where a fellow was walking around with it trying to trade it for a cheap 9x18 Makerov because he wanted something smaller.. I bought it from him for $138 bucks at the time. Came with two magazines and a case too. Unlike the true 1911's, this pistol has no grip safety. It does however have the thumb safety just like a 1911. One of the cooler aspects is that it has a takedown lever similar in function to the beretta pistols. You flip the lever down, and the whole slide comes off the front...barrel and all. Its a pretty accurate and reliable pistol as well. Ive done a little work to the trigger myself, and it's become one of my favorite pistols to shoot. I also made the grips, and carved the irish knotwork on the side which is two cormorants. On the other side is also knotwork, and a carved eagle with a diamond for the eye, and my name.
  14. You carry with a bushnell holosight? How's that work?
  15. So is that your new ammo box? ;D
  16. I found one here locally in a gun store...the pistol that is. It appeared to be a pretty good pistol. The barrel is nice and thick with a flat crown on the muzzle end, although it was shiny... Guy wanted too much for it, or I might have bought it.
  17. Ive got a bunch of photos from my nikon d60 on http://bdavisonphoto.blogspot.com/ You can click on them to view full res.
  18. That's been my experience with Canon also. I've always preferred Nikon's construction. Even the little D40 was a rock solid no-squeak body, the Canons just feel plasticy to me. But what the Canon lacks in ergos or asthetics, it makes up for in performance. Super bright vivid color processing, and the low light performance is in my opinion why they are so appreciated by the sports photography crowd. I still prefer Nikon's image processing though. Mainly because I dont shoot sports. I do portrait, with a lot of candids. I like the more humble color tones, and rawness in the nikon processing.
  19. They have the rifle listed too.... out of stock. though
  20. Thanks. :thumb:
  21. Mirrorless DSLR? How's that going to work? LCD Viewfinder...BOOOOOO Thats nothing but a glorified point and shoot. Why would they do that? Oh NOOOOO. I guess Im a purist. I hate that they added "live view" to the new DSLR's. Defeats the purpose of what you see is what you get. You just never quite get accurate reproduction on a LCD. Im sticking with my D60 for as long as I can. If the mirror dies, im gonna have it fixed. Id like a D80, because of the internal AF drive, but I can deal with that.
  22. Is CCI publicly offering stock? I cant find them on the list.... Or does anyone know what the parent company is?
  23. Is it just me or is anyone else considering buying stock in CCI? With all the new .22s coming out, and many of them recommending CCI Mini-Mags....Im seeing a trend here. Now where's my broker.
  24. I bought a D60 about 2 years ago...thing is bullet proof. I dont see the point in shooting video with a DSLR. If I wanted to shoot video, Id buy a video camera. Nikon should quit worrying about soccer mom's Facebook vids, and get back to real photography. Lets face it...when soccer mom goes out to a dimly lit soccer field to video her son or daughter tripping over their shoelaces with her pre-packaged 18-55 and 55-200, and starts shooting video at f/6 1600 ISO....its still gonna look like crap. And if Nikon thinks that soccer mom is gonna spend a couple grand on a f/1 prime for a D3000 they are kidding themselves. Quit goofin around with video garbage, and put those resources into better high ISO performance with low noise without needing a D3X and for them to do a christmas special on the 70-300 VR Nikkor so I can afford to buy one without dipping into my gun money. ;D
  25. The best way to go is the Samson RIS for the 522.... Samson Star 522 Rail for Sig 522
