  1. I was shopping online to find some .22lr ammo to discover the 150% increase in price at the bargain level. However, I found myself in Lexington on Friday for training so I went by Bud's and they had eight boxes of Federal 22 bulk pack on the shelf. They aren't offering anything online so I presume they are intentionally reserving stock for their walk-in customers. I bought two boxes at $50 each and am pleased to have have it. I feel that I now have a bare minimum level of ammo on hand, but I'll be looking to supplement my inventory as income permits. This is crazy pricing, but I sure do understand it.
  2. There may be a lot of reason in your assertion
  3. Well, I've been looking around for ammo. I'm not out, but the lack of availability has me spooked, so I was shopping. Can't find it anywhere, at all, unless you want obscure stuff. So, it got me to thinking about the simplest form of gun control...confiscate all the ammo.
  4. I'd not heard of any close door meetings. What's up wit dat?
  5. We ain't gonna lay 'em down in KY either.
  6. Yup, I read about that Texas shooting too. Sad, but that kind of lunacy is going to fuel the debate and keep things heated. I'll keep shopping for ammo but I don't hold out much hope.
  7. Did mine too
  8. I've made my gun purchase and I have been to Walmart everyday for the last two weeks checking the ammo case, just because it's easy and a fun distraction at lunch. I have watched the gun racks empty and the ammo shelves become dust collectors. I'd buy more ammo, to replace what I've been shooting at the range, if it were available. I have not been restricting my range time, and in fact, have been as many times this year as I was all of last year already, to shoot my new toy. However, I believe that I may be forced to scale back and wait for the resupply truck until further notice. As a side point, I also noticed that you can't buy a decent gun case from any retail outlet. I ordered my online after looking/waiting for more than two weeks.
  9. I relocated when I separated from my first wife in 1988. Living in a new area, I decided to pursue some of my dreams that had been put on the hold because of family, etc. so I went to a gun range competition where I saw my first AR15 and decided instantly that I wanted one. Only problem was, I chose not to be able to afford one, so I waited, and waited,...and waited. Until this mess. I placed on order for my Colt M4 .22lr on Friday following the Sandy Hook incident. I had waited a long time and wasn't going to miss the chance just because some fools think that restricting the rights our constitution affords us will fix the issue. I immediately placed orders for mags as well. I feel like I've made an exceptional purchase and am very pleased. But, I am afraid that the emotion of the moment will ultimately be much more effective that it has in the past. I don't believe this is over yet, and I think the worst is yet to come.
  10. Took Midway less than a week to fill my order for the limit of 2 mags.
  11. I've seen a AR for sale on Bud's auction page that includes an rail system that extends beyond the front sight and I think it looks cool. I have seen the Atlanta Airsoft version that is only 7" and looks very much like the stock RIS on my M4. Does anyone know if there is a Colt RIS that does this?
  12. It's a good price, IF they ever ship. This is a old model of the new item and I have my doubts that the Sportsman's Warehouse can get this item. They don't have it in stock and BSA doesn't show it available on their web site for direct order. Time will tell and I'm willing to wait, to take the chance.
  13. Just ordered the BSA Sweet .22 3-9X40 from Amazon.com for $39.99. Seemed like the best buy for a dedicated .22lr platform that won't break the bank. My old eyes need the magnification that iron sights can't provide for anything past 25 yards.
  14. Got my mags from Midway today. Still trying to decide on a scope...leaning towards the BSA Sweet 22 2-7X32
  15. Wow, put me down for 2! I've been waiting for a backorder from Wholesale Hunter but I'm not sure they'll ever ship so I jumped on this, big time. Midway puts a limit of 2 per customer or I would have ordered 4. Thanks for the heads up!
  16. Has anyone tried to adapt the iron sights on an M4 or other model to enhance the sight picture in low light? I found the HiViz product at Adorama but I don't know if it will work on my M4... http://www.adorama.com/HVAR2008.html
  17. Me too, I was in the military and have been honorably discharged, but not retired, so I voted as civilian.
  18. Just ordered a BSA Sweet .22 3 - 9X40. It's the budget model for my budget but I'm pretty excited anyway. It'll take two weeks for it to arrived, maybe, but that'll be ok if I can get it for $50 it's a deal.
  19. Update: Won't be able to mount the pistol scope that I have in hand from a previous gun. The Long Eye Relief, suggested at 13.8", is too far and won't fit on an M4. Maybe able to make something like this work on an M16 frame because of the extra length, but not for my M4. I'll be going over to Walmart to check on the .22lr dedicated scope they have in their case at lunch today. Thought you'd like to know.
  20. I've only managed to put a few hundred Federal 550 from WM but they have been good so far. I will have my scope mounted by this weekend and hope to be able to settle down to some serious target work. I do have some CCI that I've been carrying around and there is a good source near me for more but I'll have to admit that being a frequent shopper to Walmart makes that Federal stuff the most likely candidate for regular use. I'll have to keep a record book just to check out the performance differences.
  21. "Fair" pricing is based on supply and demand the "Banic" buying right now has increased the demand to such a panic level that suppliers can charge higher prices. As long as people are willing to pay those prices, suppliers will continue to charge the inflated rate. That's too bad, but I think it is fair. It's difficult to control the market from the buyers perspective because you can't control all of the buyers to make the price fall. I too fell into the panic shopping because I felt that the potential for restrictions on semi-automatic weapons would limit access later. I would not willingly choose to have to pay a higher price, but I understand it. Friday morning, following the shootings in CT, I found two Bushmaster AR15/M16 rifles available at a fair market price, when I went out at lunch to shop. Both of those guns had sold by 5:00 pm. Every gun in a fifty mile radius has been sold out since that Friday. Interestingly enough, all ammunition is sold out as well as every gun case for an AR type gun. Prices online have more than doubled for any .223 caliber gun. Is that good? Probably not if you're trying to buy, but I'd say it's the law of "supply/demand" system and it's fair.
  22. No thread adapter in my new piece. I looked through the box but nothing. I feel pretty good about the stock suppressor so I'm not too worried about the adapter right now. I just glad to have something other than a naked crown.
  23. TechMike: Thanks for the help. I read that 1" thing but the ad is poorly written and I didn't know what that would apply to so I was lost. I have my eye on a set of rings on Amazon for a 1" tube that is listed to fit any picatinny rail, so I'll probably go with that to start. If my scope doesn't work well, I'll be looking at the BSA option. Thanx again!
  24. I successfully installed the ASAP last night. Piece of cake after seeing your pictures on here. The screw was really tight and I had to put a channel locks on it to get it moving. Slow steady pressure and it came out fine. I did not get my scope mounted because a conflicts in rail size to the mount rings. Still working on that, but the sling works great. I will need to get a forward sling ring for the hand guard because I don't think it's good the attached the sling to the front sight/sling ring and put that stress on the barrel. I know, it's just me, but I don't think that pulling on the barrel can ever be a good thing, so I'm gonna switch it to a rail mounted sling attachment.
  25. First, the restrictions, like many are budget. Therefore, I am using a scope that I already have on hand. I bought a Swift Reliant 4X32 handgun scope to mount on a Mosin Nagant that I have sold, but I kept the scope, so I'm trying to save some money using this scope that I bought in 2005. I have checked the price at Optics Planet where I bought it and noticed that they are still selling this scope for $10 more than I paid seven years ago. I've reasoned that it must be performing well enough to justify the price increase. It has a 13.8" eye relief so I figure I could mount in out a little on the forward section of the rail, since I won't be mounting anything else out there any time soon. However, I bought some rail adapters to mount this scope to the top rail of my M4, to find that the adapters are still too big for the mount that came with the scope. I have researched the scope at Swift using the link below to try to find the tube size to eliminate this problem and purchase the correct mounting block, but they don't list the tube size and I don't have any way to accurately measure the tube. I was hoping that maybe someone could suggest the correct mounting block to mount this scope to the top rail of my CU M4 without costing too much... http://swfa.com/Swift-4x32-Reliant-Pistol-Scope-P8864.aspx My search for a fix to this problem lead me through all of the optics posts and TecMike has recommended a scope from BSA called a Sweet .22 that looks very nice. However, I still don't know about mounting rings and am amazed at the variance of price for mounting options. Crazy wild swings from $20 to well over $100 for mounting rings. Still confused about mounting options for a picatinny rail.
