imschur
Thursday we had a big startup of a piece of hardware. It went pretty well but the day was exhausting none the less. I get home from work tired, cranky and hungry around 6:30pm. Im greeted in the driveway by a friend/neighbor in the building next door. he says "I hate to tell you this but you have a big problem" Naturally my first thought goes to either my animals. Fortunately that was not it. However he informs me that a girl in my building went down to the basement and found about an inch and a half of water and a hot water heater spraying straight up in the air out of the chimney. He shut the water off.I spend about 5 hours sucking up water with the shop vac. All kinds of expensive wood ruined, old comics, personal photos, yearbook all wet. Im sick over that.I managed to slice my trigger finger wide open with a carpet cutter razor blade removing insulation from the heater.Next day I go to work just long enough to make sure yesterdays machine upgrade is working well and trouble shoot another machine that went up in a flash and puff of smoke.I leave around 11:30am and heat to home depot. I drop $400 on a new heater and some fittings. I get home and schlep the old heater out of the basement. As I get near the top step the heater slips and starts to slide down the stairs. I catch it and hurt my back. Of course in hindsight I should have let it just go...My neighbor comes home and helps me get the new unit in the house. The new unit is 40 gallons not 30 as was the old...DohNo big deal though. I start plumbing the thing up. The new tank has 3/4" male nipples exiting the top. The old tank was 3/4" female. Crap now I need different fittings. I head off to the local hardware store. The fittings are $3.50 a piece...ouch....crap I forgot my wallet. I go out to the truck and scrape up $5 in quarters...crap not enough. I head home and go to Lowes and get the right fittings at half the price.I plumb everything up. The new unit has a sealed chamber, no more lighting with a match. It has a piezo like a grill where you push the button. Crap it wont light......Finally I got it lit. Now back to cleaning the rest of the mess
