Jman Posted January 19, 2012 Report Posted January 19, 2012 How cold is too cold for the Umarex M4 to shoot reliably?Went out yesterday in 25F weather, bolt was getting stuck back and creeping forward, Numerous Failures of every kind! Shooting Aguila Interceptors???
Microgunner Posted January 19, 2012 Report Posted January 19, 2012 Welcome Jman.I'd say 25 degrees F then.I think you've answered that question for all of us.Thanks :thumb:
techmike Posted January 20, 2012 Report Posted January 20, 2012 I think it depends on your lube. In winter I use Slide-Glide lite - says it's good to 30 degrees. Or you could get some mil spec stuff that is good at lower temps. Temperature will not affect ammunition ignition, but cold, viscous lube will inhibit your firearm from going into battery.
Microgunner Posted January 20, 2012 Report Posted January 20, 2012 I used to live in Alaska and firearms (semi-auto, bolt or revolvers) will refuse to operate in the temps experienced there.Everyone lubed their firewarms with dry graphite powder. It's very messy and gets everywhere, but it works in the 35 degree below zero temps I saw up there.
techmike Posted January 20, 2012 Report Posted January 20, 2012 For extreme temps I have THIS, it is good stuff, wipe on, wipe off.
Jman Posted January 21, 2012 Author Report Posted January 21, 2012 Stoked!!! Some really good info here! :thumb:I knew this was a good group on this forum. Thank you all for your ideas & advice.I was actually considering Trying Moly Powder mixed w/ Lucas HD Stabalizer on the bolt! Just for fun LOL
unforgiven Posted January 28, 2012 Report Posted January 28, 2012 I use CLP for everything so far winter shooting in Indiana is all good.Rock River uses G96 for the new CLP.My .02
