Having a barrel threaded

Does a barrel need to be of a certain OD before it can be threaded for a suppressor, or adapter for a suppressor?

Yes for a .22 the barrel in most cases needs to support a 1/2-28 thread. I forget the diameter

When i threaded my mosin nagent barrel i used a local companys lathe and i turned the barrel down to 16 mm 1.5 inches long so i could seat the muzzle brake quite deep  as i was using an M14 left handed die and the pitch of the thread was 1mm i used a 7.62 AK47 muzzle brake.
