Computer hell

Man this was a rough ride. My install of Windows 7 was moving files at about 240kbs. It  was awful. Flash and .js was not functioning. I went out and bought a 300gb WD Raptor and an OEM Win 7. It took about 4 days to get all my files moved around and backed up. The W7 install busted my chops big time. Then the registration number had a B that looked like an 8...Once I got through the BS I had the OS installed in about 20 minutes. My files are moving at about 40MB's now  :thumb:

Recovering my firefox data was a bit of a pain until I found the right article :)

My last install of W7 was via an upgrade disk that required Vista be installed in advance (MS Aholes) . So now Im on my second copy of W7 since October.

I hate computers.

sounds like you had an external HD. USB connection?

i usually install the slave drive internally (SATA) where the file transfers zip through in minutes.

all my main system drives are routinely imaged through my home network. takes about 20 minutes to completely image (copy) a 500 GB HD. gigaspeed networking.

I just re-read my original post I was clear as mud. My issues were multi pronged. It started the day I  used a Windows 7 upgrade  disk. I was in the group who's upgrade disk would not allow a clean install on a formatted drive even with the various work arounds. So I had to install Vista then do the upgrade. It actually went well for about an hour. I wasnt able to install any Adobe products as well as other various apps. Then the pc was puking on files from my other drives. All kinds of permission errors. Naturally google told me i want alone and and someone actually made a utility that when run would "Take Ownership" of files in bulk. That solved most of my issues until about a month ago when a trial of ESET NOD32. Installing it broke flash, shockwave and a host of other features.

So I decided to by an OEM Win7 64 disk and a 300gb velociraptor and start over. When it came time to install the OS was looking for drivers yet rejecting everything I threw at it. Finally I broke down and hit the internet googling my mogo and read something  that got me thinking. I booted into the bios and changed the SATA controllers to AHCI rebooted and away I went. Interestingly Vista 64 installed on the same system without issue. Anyhow the next problen was the registration where a B looked like an 8. That kicked my ass and I have great eyes. Once I decoded that the stars aligned and everything went well.

The slow network speed was moving files of an old NAS. It took 3 days to move 300gb.
