Popcop45
I think it is so unfortunate, the magazine for the GSG-5 looks like a toys-r-us item. I don't see why they didn't just replicate the original magazine like air-soft companies do. GSG is no the only one on the ugly magazine bandwagon. S&W M&P 22 and a few other have that see through rail exposing the magazine spring and rounds when loaded. Get real, this is no toy.
imschur
I often speculated to myself this was so the weapons could not be confused with the real deal for some reason  The first M16 .22 conversions used modified M16 mags..that was cool. Look what Ciener did to that :o
Microgunner
Welcome to T22 Popcop45,I believe the slot in the sides of some .22lr magazines are necessary to accommodate thumb studs that make loading the magazine much faster. A feature important to many shooters interested in high capacity, fast discharge firearms. On the shooting bench you'll find the magazines with thumb studs, and therefore slots, the most popular style.
Madhouse
My GSG-5 mags and my S&W M&P 15-22 mags are so much easier to load than the Black Dog mags for my Sig 522. Just personal opion here, but I would rather have the assistance of those thumb studs.
Popcop45
No doubt we're all for easier and faster loading of the magazine. I just think the design takes away from the overall looks of a great MP5 clone weapon; that's just me. Believe me, I've been were I couldn't feel my thumbs after loading so many rounds at the range. ;D
