I'd like to know also, I bought a couple of bulk boxes up in New Hampshire this past summer. I guess I'll break down and shoot some of it this weekend if we don't get slammed by the snowstorm...

As posted in my Olive Drab post the Desert Tan Krylon is also holding up great, no chips or peeling. My buddy Ricky is very pleased....

Well guys it has been 2 weeks since I shot the Colt with the Krylon Fusion Olive Drab. I have run 750 rounds thru the gun, removed the upper for cleaning, laid the rifle on a salt-treat deck several times, and carried the arm in the trunk a couple of times in a covert carry case (softsided). So far not a scuff or chip. I'm very pleased with the Krylon. The secret to the bonding is CLEANING the arm and a good wipedown with thinner prior to spraying it. Multiple thin coats and one semiwet final coat. Seemed to work WELL.

Colt/Umarex/Walther Tactical .22 Ammo Thread
rodent.22 replied to SCORPiON5150's topic in Colt Umarex General
I ran 200 rounds yesterday and 550 rounds today of the Federal bulkpak 36 grain hollowpoints. Each 30 round mag had at least one failure to fire. Upon studying the unfired round, the rim strike was clear and appeared to be a full strike. In every instance I reloaded the round in the magazine being sure to rotate the cartridge so to have a fresh edge of the rim available for the firing pin. In all instances the repositioned cartridge fired except once. That cartridge was reinserted 4 times, on the 4th time it was struck, it fired. This appears to be a case of insufficent priming compound inside the rim of the shell. The standard .22 ammo seems to have pretty low quality control, especially in this time of unprecedented sales. I had a couple of stovepipes, but that was prior to my first GOOD cleaning of the weapon. This weapon really settles down and smooths out with several hundred rounds down the barrel. I am using a reddot sight boresighted and the accuracy appears to be VERY good. I have literally ran the rounds thru the gun this weekend to ''break-in'' the arm, so accuracy hasn't been a priority so far. My spraying the furniture with Krylon has turned out very well, the stuff hasn't chipped or scuffed at all. -
Evidently the assembly lube is really full bodied (read thick) and unless cleaned out of the bolt assembly it will cause light strikes. It's probably a combination of a missed initial cleaning and a need to ''wear in'' the bolt assembly. I've read all this second hand, lite strikes are not a problem for mine....

The Colt is very ammo- sensitive, out- of- standard spec (cheap) ammo is unlikely to chamber fully leading to misfires. Also if this rifle is not cleaned fully before first firing, the bolt assy is prone to light strikes. Most owners report around 600 rounds will settle the arm down and get it running reliably....

I step out on the porch,(front or rear) and blast away....leave weapon on porch and step into house to warm up..... the advantage to living in a RURAL county.

hey- what can I say?

Yes that's right- I loaded three 30 round clips out of a 100 round box of CCI minimags. When I finished I only had 7 rounds left in the box...each of my mags had 31 rounds inside, I thumbed the buttons down and loaded them until they were full, no forcing or jamming in involved, didn't bother to count! They functioned fine, no issues.

thanks guys! now if it holds up!

I had decided to change colors on my OPS, and after I opened up the stock the time was right. I saw that Krylon had a new paint with what they called Fusion bonding technology, made in several camouflage colors. No sanding or priming was required, just a wipedown with thinner. A quick disassembly, cleaning and spray. After reassembly and 7 days total cure time, it is supposed to be very chip resistant. I'm giving it a try. Went on great, dried well. I put on three lite coats, dried with a hair dryer. I'll post up durability reports....

burkedogg18- Hi! and welcome....you know, I have not had my rail system off, I'm assuming that it should be installed from the front. I wonder if the barrel sleeve removes from the rear (receiver end). Just a thought.... ;D
-
the front sight has to come of as the quad rail is screwed onto the barrel nut and then locked with a pair of set screws....put a little Vaseline on the barrel when sliding the sight, it won't marr too much when its lubed up. PLEASE- no wise comments .....

I run a rope lite in my wifes ceramic figurine display cabinet. It lights up the inside well, it's on all the time, it doesn't heat up and couldn't cost over 25 cents a month to run, and it came from Lowes light bulb area. About 6 bucks and I have an extra one! I never thought about the gun cabinet! Great idea!!!

yes the stock is still very strong, I didn't cut the hole all the way to the edge of the stock, about a 1/4'' inch of the flat panel was left to maintain strength. Smurf the panel could be cut with a saw, however I did this at my command center in the den ( recliner), and wanted to watch TV rather than stand out in the garage with the band saw....so the razor knife worked okay for this small project.LOL

Adjustable stock sloppiness repair
rodent.22 replied to rodent.22's topic in Colt Umarex Mods and Upgrades
Hi TM....I think the clearance issues may be several suppliers being involved in the stock parts manufacture....The rest of the gun is superb....
