  1. The one I saw was at Carter's Country in Houston. The Pasadena store. He brought it out of the back and showed it to me, but I didn't want to get on the wait list..(For approximately 9 months..).. http://www.carterscountry.net/ They are a little pricey, and don't sell bulk ammo, but I keep an eye open for their weekly sales.
  2. Nope, but I am now...
  3. Thanks once again Drew..I'm practicing up to get a little skill and can use all the hints I can get..Thanks..My nephew, (HPD homicide dectective) may come with us as well....(If his wife will let him go...Yeah..He's caught a ration of it from me on that... ;D) He found out I was a newbie, and offered to meet me at the range in the future, to give me some pointers...Looking forward to that., but he's one of those guys I might see everyday for a month, and then not see him for 3..So I aint holding my breath.. ;D
  4. Drew...You ARE the MAN!!!! 8)
  5. I'm with you there... But after what the markets have done the last month...Retirement...We don't need no stinking retirement... ;D Signed 57 year old with a kid fixing to start his freshman year in college....Sigh... ;D
  6. Just got back from the Range with my PX4.. I shot 250 rounds through the gun. I performed flawlessly. My only gripe is the mag springs are so stout, I could never get the full 17 rounds in them.. I also noticed at about 10 feet, I was pulling a little to the right..Still nice tight pattern, but a little to the right. As I moved the target out to 20 feet, and then 30 feet. pattern got a little wider, but more pronounced to the right... So I had a talk with the owner of the range. 1st...He cured the hard to load mag problem, with a mag speed loader, which he readily sold to me for $30.00.. Best $30 I ever spent. Works on everything from 32 cal to 45 cal, and my poor old sore thumb is so thankful.. 2nd..Told him about my pulling to the right and showed him my targets. He said it was unsual to be pulling to the right since I'm a left handed shooter. Then he had me hold the gun in shooting position. He spotted it right off the bat. Too much bite with the trigger finger. I had my trigger finger stuck into the trigger to the 1st joint. Told me to just have the pad of the finger on the trigger....Did as I was told, and Voila!!!! no more pull....And this had been an ongoing problem with all my guns.. Gun had very little recoil, and I practiced 2 quick shots at various distances to see how quickly I could reaqure target. Damn little gun shoots like a dream, and was able to quickly reaquire target, and shoot tight groups.. That's it for now.. Just bought 1000 more 9 mm rounds for more fun this weekend. Nothing exoctic just UMX stuff for targets. My brothers coming down from Austin, with his 9 so we'll be shooting up a storm.. We may go to an outside range and shoot his mini 14. We'll be bringing out the arsenal. He's been shooting for several years, and is stoked that I finally came around.. ;D
  7. WOW.... And I thought I was spending some bread...Sounds cool buddy!!! 8)
  8. Thanks George. Am looking forward to it..
  9. Yep...The Gibson L5 was my dream guitar ever since I heard my 1st Wes Montgomery record back in the 60's. One of those things you save a lifetime for, and finally you say hell with it, every man deserves a dream. Being a newbie to handgunning, I don't know enough to know what my "L5" will be, but I'm on the lookout, trying to buy quality stuff, and get a feel for the whole thing. I learned one thing from my years as a guitarist. To get the most enjoyment out of it, get quality stuff. Doesn't have to be the most expensive axe in the world, just good quality and workmanship..I figure the same goes for hand guns, and that's the principles I've been going by in my handgun purchases. I figure it'll take me a few years to get to the point where I know what my "L5" is, and have my profieciency to the point I feel I deserve it.. In the mean time I'm really having a ball honing my skills, and learning something new and a getting immersed into a whole new culture... Just as a slight intro..Here's me playing my beloved L5. (Concentrate on the guitar, not the face.. ;D).
  10. Yep....
  11. Hello Mike and Welcome...
  12. Well...I took the plunge. I'm signed up for my CHL class on August 27th, at San Jac college. Price was reasonable at $75.00. I understand I have to submit the class paperwork and $125 to State of Texas to get my license, which is good for 5 years. I understand the shooting requirements. and frankly from what I've seen, if you can't score 175 on the shooting part, you may as well take a track course to run away from you attackers.. ;D Class goes from 7:30 in the AM till 7:00 in the PM... Anyway..For you guys that have went through it, was wondering if you'd share your experiences and thoughts..Thanks..
  13. Yep...Pricing UMX ammo 250 rounds for my FNP45, and just started getting bummed..Everytime I go to the range and practice it's costing me around $100.. I've got a 22 NEOS, And while a great fun and a cheap way to build skills, I just like the bigger caliber guns. Asked the guy behind the counter what a pack of 9mm UMX 250 round would cost me, and when he said around $50, I got interested. I've been wanting a 9 for about a month and have shot a few at the range, like the glock17, sig 22, And the Beretta Storm. .. So..You guys know what happened next..Right??? Yep...I own another handgun.. Berrata Storm F. Came with 2 17 round mags, 3 extra back grips for fit. and I bought 500 rounds for what I'm spending for 250 rounds for my 45....(It's the one with the rotating barrell, to help prevent jams..We'll see).. Of course the wife was extremely happy, that I'm looking our for her safety.. ;D Going to clean all the anti rust crap off, give it a good oiling and go pump some more rounds through tommorw. Give you a range report tomorrow... Damn you Drew...This stuff is starting to remind me of the time I had 17 guitars.. ;D  P.S.. Forgot to Mention..While there, the guy had just got a special order in (9 months of waiting) for one of those Kal Tech PR30's (22 MAG with 30 round clip..) Before giving it to his customer he actually brought it out and let me handle it..If it shoots as good as it feels, it's gonna be a great gun...Yep..He said he couldn't stand it and shot 2 mags through it, with no problems of any kind, right out of the box..
  14. I'm loving this gun more and more everytime I go to the range....Just got back and pumped a couple of hundred rounds through it. Not one Jam, Stovepipe. Just round after round of tight groups, anywhere from 10 to 30 feet. The ammo is killing me...(Just the target stuff so far is costing about $100 for 250 rounds for 45 ACP... So when I went to go buy another $100 dollars worth at the gun store, when I finished shooting at range.....Well you'll see in my next thread..Let's just say I found a solution.... ;D So far after about 500 rounds through the gun...(Including the one mag mag of 40 S&W by accident :-[) This gun just keeps shooting better and better....I'm loving it...Trigger pull nice and smooth, while not mushy, and accuracy and action just keeps getting better... Now about While I was buying Ammo.... ;D
  15. Yep...And she's a hell of a lot better shot with a handgun..Don't argue with her much.. ;D
  16. Yep...I'm not any good but I am having FUN... You know me...If it aint fun I aint gonna do it!!!
  17. I really ought to start a new thread..."Confessions of a Newbie Handgunner".. ;D I took the S&W 40, and the FNP45 to the range yesterday. Shot around 150 rounds out of each. Both guns worked flawlessly. With one exception with the FNP45. You know...You're sitting at the range. You got your bullets all out on the little table.. You go to reload the mag of the FNP45. You guessed it..Loaded it with S&W 40's... The whole time I'm loading the mag, I'm thinking.. "Man..I must be really getting good at this. I'm just loading this mag with barely no effort" Put the Mag in the FNP45..Sighted up on the target at 25 feet. Pulled the trigger, and missed the target by about 18 inches.... I'm a newbie to handgunning..(About 2 months)..Grew up in Mississippi, squierrel hunting with shotguns, and deer hunting with rifles.. Had shot a few hand guns, but never to try achieve proficiency. So in 2 months I have gone from (Wow..I hit the target, to working on my grip, stance, etc... to where I can shoot around a 6" pattern at 25 feet..)...My son pisses me off..Is there such a thing as a natural? He set's up a target at 25', picks up the gun in a perfect grip, weaver stance, and just nails bull, after , bull, so after about 2 clips there's nothing in the middle but a hole...But I digress.. Drew... I will tell you that the FNP 45 shot the 40 S&W without a single misfire, jam, etc..except for the last round. Now accuracy was absolute awful.. ;D I was really getting discourgaed by the end of the clip.. thinking..."Damn.. this gun aint worth anything..." ;D When I got the last round out, and I realized what I had done, I just shook my head ??? And then I loaded up 45 ACP's, and shot another 100 rounds through it flawlessly, and perfect accuracy, at least in my sons hands, Newbie accuracy in mine.. ;D I figure if that FNP45 can survive me and my screwups, and still shoot like that, it must be a hell of a gun.... Hope you get yours worked out buddy!

    loaded mag question

I've wondered about that as well, but I figure the firing pin, and slide springs last a hell of a long time under tension, so I just figured mag springs would as well..
  20. Mine doesn't do that unloaded, and just locking it, and inserting mags. I guess you're talking about after shooting a mag, and inserting a new one..Didn't have that problem either, last week, But I got about 300 rounds I'm going to put it through this afternoon. I'll get back with you..

    Tactical Shotguns

I keep a Mossberg 500 persuader, loaded with #4, next to my bed...Went with the #4, cause I'm a little concernced about the penetration, living in a neighboorhood. Course I have my 2 Taurus Judges, both loaded with Winchester PDX410's...I don't have to be a marksman with this combo..Just point in the general direction and aim... ;D Don't have to tell you what a great gun the persuader is, but here's the Judge with the PDX ammo And when I take my Judge's to the range and put #4 in them, I have to try to get lanes with nobody shooting adjacent. At 20 feet, it will hit not only target in front but a few pellets, will hit the adjacent targets..
  22. Thanks Guys!!! Will do MadHouse..I live in Seabrook, about 5 miles from the space center..Got the boat and can be in Galveston bay in about 2 minutes....Real cool, till those pesky hurricanes blow through... ;D
  23. I don't know if a mistake was made or not, but with my FNP I got one 15 round mag, and 2 14 round.. ???
  24. Congrats Drew... Yeah, I'm having a ball with the FNP... What got me about the show MadHouse, was the crowds...WOW!!! I got there at 1:00 P.M. and by the time I looked at everything, they were announcing... "It's 4:30. Thirty minutes till we close. Time to wrap up your purchases to have ample time for the background check"... So I ran back over to the AJC table and bought the FNP45, and another Taurus Judge.. At times you would just have to wade through the crowds. This was my 1st gun show, but I had a ball.. P.S. I just thought guitars were expensive.. ;D
