  1. today I took a couple of AR's on trade....One is different and not like others! a AR-57! until yesterday when this guy called, I had never even heard of such a thing, that's not saying much as I see and learn new things every day. but this thing is different enough...I think I like it!
  2. I have not played with my stuff enough yet to start knowing what works best, I was using standard cci's that day after we were able to pick up a few boxes at Cabela's but heck...I was struggling with sighting and breathing so I am a ways away from tight groups on a regular basis!
  3. Congrates Tom!!!! dang nice grouping there!
  4. Oh Great!!! turn me on to other little do-dads and goodies I have never heard of!!! lol "adjustable harmonic stabilizer"... Barrel tuners?....ohhh...this could get ugly!
  5. Hope you guys are staying some what dry! its a little wet here in Colorado!
  6. Thanks for the positive feed back! and she dosen't mind it sitting on the coffie table...its not on the kitchen counter anymore! lol
  7. That bipod is cool Mike..along with that Boro that imschur showed! I think if I end up with a AR I could see myself owning either of those and let it share duty between a AR and my little M&P, Now that I know all my brain work towards a bipod for the 10/22 build resulted in zero original ideas... even though I drew some stuff in cad before I ever saw it on line, like my Piviots! look a lot like the Atlas Bibod piviots! still giving thought as to how to make it unigue..exploring options!
  8. cool collection!
  9. good info! My daughter had looked at the Walther, not serious about a purchase yet...but she looked!
  10. I apologize to everybody for holding this up, I screwed up the address and it came back in the mail....I am such a putz!
  11. Thanks for the info!... sadly my little bipod balloon has been burst...discovered f-class bipods tonight...
  12. Thought I would share this one, almost a year ago I acquired this Savage/Stevens Model 62. It was pretty rough and beat up looking, lots of scratches and dings in the stock, scratched up and even a good grind mark on the 3x9 Tasco, front sight broke off... Over last winter, I sanded down the stock, smoothed all the molding seams, etc. It was my intent to to re-polish the stock, but I was not happy with any of my attempts. The purple had started out as a joke, wife likes Purple and kept kidding her that if I painted it purple she would have to shot it (she's not really interested in shooting) When the polish job was not coming out...I went with the purple paint! I masked off the checkering and left that black. With the front sight broke, I went ahead and proclaimed it a scope only gun, drove both the front and rear sights out of the dove tails, pulled the barrel off and put it in the lathe and threaded to muzzle. The compensator is inert/fake and has no ports, for now. But I put a recess in it so that when I screwed it on it covered the front sight dovetail. Next was a simple sling/stud mount picatinney rail for mounting the bi-pod. I wanted to be able to use the bi-pod with my M&P, that's why I just did not use a sling stud bi-pod. Until yesterday I had left the tasco scope on it, I stumbled across a BSA 4-16x40 Illuminated Mil-Dot reticle on craigslist for 40.00 and figured it was hard to go wrong with that....other then trying to find cheap scope rings, that failed and they cost 30.00 and dinner at Village Inn...She wasn't cookin after being drug to the LSG, Dick's and then Sportsman ware house! I really have little invested in this gun, but it seems to be shaping up nicely, I have only shot it a couple of times, but at 50 yards I was able to go 10 for 10 on one of my spinner targets, last time I had it out, think its like 4-5 inches in diameter spinner. Now that I am trying to learn more about scopes, tighter groups, MOA...all that kinda stuff, think I will have to shoot the Purple Plinkinator a little more often!
  13. Hi, I am looking to do a custom bi-pod and mount, but wanting to not have a sling mount or rail semi permanently mounted hanging off of the stock, wanting what ever is there to be flush with the stock surface when the bi-pod is removed. So I have been giving thought to a threaded insert/escutcheon that also had a provision for a couple of dowels so to prevent rotation of say a small Picatinny rail. But I have also been giving thought to a T-Slot type of configuration and finding myself leaning that direction. What has me noodling, is a bi-pod pivot design that would allow some side to side tilt and possibly some rotation, that when folded up would still keep the legs in line with the stock or barrel (my current leg pivot design should allow the legs to be stowed forward or towards the rear with out rotating the bi-pod) and I would like it to do so with out turning a ton of knobs to lock every thing down. it is also my desire to keep the tilt/pivoting mechanism as small and compact as possible. I am going to build the bi-pod myself so another of my desires is to have the legs of the bi-pod be the cosmetic focal point. So the question is, what bi-pods pivot designs and mounting systems have you fine folks seen and/or have contemplated that might provide some insight! Thanks!
  14. Hey! mine came back undelivered in the mail Saturday! Resending today
  15. Need to get it out and try that new barrel out!!!
  16. Thanks for the info Micro! Google Searches have had me up to wee hours as of late doing lots of reading, at first I was thinking I wanted to build my own receiver, Have even started to draw it all up in CAD, but then I read a post about from a guy on rimfire central that had built his own receiver stating that he did not think he could have accomplished it with out having a receiver in his hand to compare and understand details that just naturally are hard to grasp from a drawing. The thought of buying a receiver to use as a guide to building one has me questioning my desire to build it vs the cost effectiveness of purchasing a quality piece. I gave thought to the 80% stuff, same conclusion, just a few dollars away from purchasing what seems to be top shelf stuff. So the current shinny direction has me looking at the Kidd Supergrade along with a threaded breach stainless barrel. The Super grade does offer the rear tang option and I have been giving lots of thought about how to do some nice flanged bedding pillars...and get them in the stock level and straight, I have even been trying to think through barrel bedding that could possibly dampen shock and harmonics. I looked at the carbon fiber tension barrel and it was definitely a shinny moment that grabbed my attention, and I do so much like the look of carbon fiber as a accent and have used carbon fiber products and carbon fiber look stuff on several projects (Race Car Stuff). But with this project. I think I have pretty much decided on a fairly straight forward Fluted barrel, kinda....have some thoughts on the flute configuration to add a detail touch with out making it look like I am trying to create a future weapon or one up other fluted barrels by doing wild patterns and twist. As soon as the budget allows, we will see what shinny I decide to go with!
  17. This is where I am beginning, This stock came yesterday, After about a week of looking & reading, I think I have a mental image of where I am headed, I am sure there will be changes and adjustments along the way as I am susceptible to the Squirrel/Shinny Object syndrome. I have contemplated the possibility of machining my own receiver, but am leaning towards just purchasing one, Time vs Money vs Not actually ever had a 10/22 apart, and honestly, I do not think I have ever even shot one!
  18. Good News!!
  19. When it comes out of the freezer, use a propane torch to heat the receiver and maybe the warm receiver will expand away from the cold shell case? Never have done that with a firearm...but have done it with bearings and other stuff
  20. I like it too...but I ordered the top one! I spent several days looking at all the different laminated stocks, colors etc...wow there is a lot of hard choices. went with this shark stock, didn't seem to be a lot of pictures of guns built with these, and then choose the black/grey combo thinking if I ended up mixing any colors in, it would tie a black scope into any receiver, barrel, trigger group combination. This is probably going to be some what of a long term build. But going to try to learn, build a nice firearm that I hope has a lot of cool factor when its done and maybe even a few features that make it unique amongst all the other cookie cutter 10/22 laminated stock builds!
  21. Hi Guys! As I get deeper into this 22 shooting stuff, and firearms in General. It would seem that my initial desire to play with 22's is well founded, not that I have not and will not be looking at other calibers and such.... Any way, to get to the point I am one reach around to the wallet and dragging a card out away from ordering a 10/22 stock as a starting point! Thought I would post a pic and get some thoughts and feed back!
  22. lol..need lots of luck cause I have no skill!... lol, but I did learn a lot doing this!
  23. in the envelope, will be in the mail tomorrow (Tuesday)
  24. used to hunt when I was a kid...but now I just let my son in law stock the freezer! lol...lot easier
  25. and a warm welcome to you!
