Does anyone out there know what the deal is with the 22 round limit? Umarex MP5 also has a max 25 round mag. I know there is a 100 round drum for the GSG but I was wondering why not a standard 30 round mag like the ruger 10/22?

The complaints over the last 2 years about the Colt 30 rounder produced by Umarex/Walther being "too long, and rediculous looking" have probably had an effect on the size of the magazines that will be produced for the newer guns being released by Umarex. Of course 99.9% of the whining has been by NON-OWNERS.... I LIKE the large capacity mags on all of them.

The .22lr, being a rimmed cartridge, gets quite a curve in it when you go to 30 rounds. Look at this Remington 30 rounder. It's almost 90 degrees.

The Colt 30 round mag is just as curved inside the oversized shell.

They can and have but, the magazine must be very carefully loaded in order to prevent rim lock. Most shooters can't seem to load double stack rimfire magazines properly, consistently.

The GSG-5 mags will actually hold 24 rounds and feed just fine.  However, adding another 6 rounds would indeed extend the mag body to a length that some might find less aesthetically pleasing.  As for curvature, many .22 mags have little or no curvature as they are designed to "single-stack" but allow the rims to splay alternately thus reducing or when needed or desired, eliminating curve in the mag.  For example, the stock mag in most .22 rimfire conversion units for 1911 style pistols hold 15 rounds yet are perfectly straight with the cartridges lined up along a straight line inside...the result of single-stacking the noses while letting the rims splay...and as for reliability my Ciener billet .22 mag has never once mis-fed a round.

The GSG-5 mag uses the same principle in order to mirror the same curvature as it's MP-5 inspiration.

I saw a post in another forum (can't remember where) they modified the magazine capacity by cutting the follower over 1/4 inch. Extending the capacity to around 27 rounds. Still Ruger 10/22 mags are double stack 30 rounders and have been proven performers for years.
