imschur Posted November 23, 2010 Report Posted November 23, 2010 My old lady wants a composter. Any of you guys have experience with these things?
asmurff Posted November 23, 2010 Report Posted November 23, 2010 The commerically made composters work well from what I've been told by otherswho have backyard gardens, but they are pricey. You can make one from a 55 gallon drum. Of course most of the older people doing compost swear the piles or piles work better. I do neither since, I don't get enough leaves or grass clippings to get one going, plus being dry NM I'd have to water a pile at least weekly. http://www.flickr.com/photos/laj2006/171922553/
Microgunner Posted November 27, 2010 Report Posted November 27, 2010 Our composter is a great big pile behind the house, way behind the house. Works great, just dig out what you need at planting time and you're good to go. Never used one of those fancy city slicker rotary compost machines. Hell, I hear some of them even got motors on them.
imschur Posted November 27, 2010 Author Report Posted November 27, 2010 I could see me turning one or two of the parking spaces at my building into compost piles
lmao_37 Posted November 27, 2010 Report Posted November 27, 2010 I could see me turning one or two of the parking spaces at my building into compost piles  Sounds like a plan to me why not just fill up a couple of cars ?
imschur Posted December 5, 2010 Author Report Posted December 5, 2010 I just ordered this for the little woman
asmurff Posted December 5, 2010 Report Posted December 5, 2010 Looks like a good one. Does grow flowers or veggies.
Microgunner Posted December 9, 2010 Report Posted December 9, 2010 Good for you, and good for the environment. What we don't feed the chickens goes into our compost pile.
imschur Posted December 25, 2010 Author Report Posted December 25, 2010 well the little woman is thrilled with the composter...go figure
Microgunner Posted December 30, 2010 Report Posted December 30, 2010 She's easy to please. A virtue in a good woman.
