Where's the front strap checkering on 1911's

I looked at quite a few 1911's today. I was surprised to see how many lacked checkering or even serrations on the front strap. Even a stinking Kimber Gold Match lacked it. What gives?

The only uncomfortable front-strap checkering I have is on my Kimber Ten II double-stack 1911.  It kind of chews up the supporting fingers a bit.

You're right though, it seems you have to go with a custom shop model anymore to get front-strap checkering.

I'm not much of a fan of front strap checkering. Prolonged shooting bare handed inevitably leaves my hand on the verge of blisters.

While it's not mandatory I do have a strong preference for something on the front strap. I prefer checkering but serrations are ok too. My hands and fingers are pretty calloused and have been most of my life maybe that's why Im not bothered by checkering.

There used to be available an add on checkered front strap that consisted of a checkered sheet metal appliance that was held in place by the grip studs and grips. Don't know if they're still around.

Any of the wrap around grips fit your requirement? Both mine are smooth front, rear stripping.
