I tried looking for an extra barrel but couldn't find anything on google. I ended up picking up a 522 a few hours ago and was surprised to see it had one in there.

if you can get sig to give you a barrel then i want one to. personally, i don't think they will do it.

now after spending the money on a set of sights the factory is now including sights.

what is making me angry is that not only did i not get what others are getting, i can't buy what they are getting without buying another rifle

Before people get too hot under the collar, it should be noted that Sig sells the 522 in several different configurations (and prices).  The version that comes with the heavy barrel should have the following part number on the case:  R522BBLCOMBO  This configuration typically costs a bit more than the single barrel version, from what I've seen.

I called sig and they told me that it is not available, I found one for sale on another site and received it yesterday, I'll be taking it to the range next week for a try.

Is the barrel hard to switch?

havent tried it as i like the look of the standard barrel with the muzzle break

the heavy barrel is smooth i didnt see a muzzle break or any type of threading

next time i shoot outdoor i will switch out the barrel and report back

The heavy barrel looks like the normal target type barrel used on rifles such as the Remington VTR. I'm sure it would increase accuracy.

However, the issuance of the heavy barrel does not appear to imply that there was any shortcomings in the 16" standard barrel. It looks like sig wanted to allow shooters to use the gun for competition shooting and long range hunting.  Probably would be nice to add some weight to the stock for that kind of work. I added lead shot to my Remington VTR's A1 stock by pouring lead shot into the space where the cleaning kit goes. Balanced it a little better.

if the rifle will be shot on a bench or some sort of rest then it would be nice to have the extra weight, which can be added in the grip and "gas" storage area, but i think the heavy barrel should suffice for the extra weight when shooting off hand

A little help please I'm trying to change out to the heavy barrel, the instructions say counter clockwise, I'm assuming that would mean with the barrel pointing away from me while holding the receiver, is this correct??

got home, stripped the rifle apart, but i for the life of me could not get the barrel bolt loose, going either direction LOL

anyone else have any luck?

would threading and slapping a break on the heavy barrel have any negative impact on the barrel itself?
