bdavison
Ok, so I just had to have one. Once I saw it, I wanted it....picked it up today.Savage makes the Mk2 TR in a couple of different versions.1. Desert Tan Stock .222. Black Stock .223. Black Stock .17HMRI dont know if they make a desert tan .17HMR version.I purchased the Desert Tan .22LR version. What really sold me on this rifle was that it is a dead on accurate .22 version of a tactical rifle. McMillian style stock, fluted bull barrel, oversized bolt handle, adjustable accutrigger, and it comes with scope and mounts. If you ever wanted a .22 that mimics your full blown $3000 tactical sniper rifle....this one is it.The stock is amazing. Its wood, coated and textured just like the McMillian stocks. If I didnt know better, I'd sware it was made by McMillian. The grip is vertical, unlike a standard sporting rifle stock. The cheekrise is positioned so that you dont need a aftermarket cheekpiece to get proper sight picture. Underneath the stock is a notched out area for you to use to pull the rifle into your shoulder while shooting prone, and its flat on the bottom for using sandbags. The forend of the stock is wide, and tapered so you can adjust elevation by sliding it forward or backward on your sandbag/pack. It has Sling mounts pre-installed, and the mount for a harris bipod in addition to the sling mounts. The barrel and reciever is coated in a tactical black non-reflective coating. The barrel is fluted, and the crown is a target crown. Its thick, beefy and free-floated right from the factory. The magazine is a 5 round metal mag. From what I've read online regarding it, is that it is a tackdriver...only time will tell. I fully plan to wring it out at 100yds and find out what it's capable of.Pics coming right up!
imschur
I think Savage has a winner on their hands with this rifle.Bring on the pictures.
bdavison
Here we go...Upper rifle - Rem 700 Tactical M24, and the lower rifle is the Savage MkII TR[img width=800 height=537]https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/310922_2123419924777_1224218575_32064525_322603180_n.jpgView of the Accutrigger, and the inserted magazine. The Accutrigger for those of you that have never used one is user-adjustable. You can adjust it anywhere from about 3oz to 4.5lbs. It is very VERY crisp. The rifle comes with a special tool that you insert into the trigger group, and you can simply turn a screw to adjust the trigger.[img width=800 height=537]https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/294421_2123417084706_1224218575_32064514_1626965993_n.jpgThe oversized bolt handle and safety. The bolt is tight in the gun, I guess it will take some shooting time to loosen up a bit. [img width=800 height=537]https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/296396_2123417364713_1224218575_32064515_952774059_n.jpgMuzzle end of the barrel showing the target crown, and the fluted barrel. Savage apparently thought ahead for those of us that like to suppress them, and left the last bit of barrel un-fluted should we choose to thread it.[img width=800 height=537]https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/295808_2123417804724_1224218575_32064517_493605141_n.jpgAn overhead shot of the front of the stock and the barrel. As you can see the stock is wide so it sits well when on a bench/rest/bipod/etc. Also the barrel is free-floated for increased accuracy.[img width=800 height=537]https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/291854_2123417924727_1224218575_32064518_1273435381_n.jpgOpened bolt, showing chamber, and you can see the red magazine follower. Bolt removes just like any other bolt action...pull to rear, pull trigger, and bolt slides right out.[img width=800 height=537]https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/315810_2123418084731_1224218575_32064519_1028807569_n.jpgThe sexiest stock ever found on a .22 bolt-action rifle. LOL. Tall cheekpiece, vertical grip, textured, flat bottom, and notch for supporting with left hand during prone shooting. Just totally awesome. [img width=800 height=537]https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/316815_2123418524742_1224218575_32064520_1121735086_n.jpgMagazine and magazine well. The release is at the rear of the mag well. 5 round magazine....which is more than enough for what this gun was designed for.[img width=800 height=537]https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/292077_2123418764748_1224218575_32064521_1698478519_n.jpgThe bolt has a rather unique double claw extractor. Extraction on the gun is very VERY good. It launches empties.[img width=800 height=537]https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/312648_2123419404764_1224218575_32064523_1274502719_n.jpgThe bolt.[img width=800 height=537]https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/296517_2123419564768_1224218575_32064524_916156319_n.jpgCant wait to shoot it.....Accuracy report coming soon. Gotta do up my ballistics tables, and really launch a few out there.
bdavison
Scope on my rifle is not the one it came with. It came with a 3-9x40 no-name scope. Which isnt bad....but I still prefer the BSA Contender scopes for .22 rifles. So I swapped it out.

bdavison
Ok guys, finally got it out to the range. After a quick sight-in, shot a 10 rounds at 100yds just to see what it would do.Was rather surprised at this.....[img width=800 height=450]https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/317865_2142521082294_1224218575_32080066_1896929776_n.jpgUsing CCI Standard Velocity 1080fps lead rounds. I cant wait to see what it will do with Lapua X-act ammo. Conditions were:5-7mph wind, coming from 10:30 to my shooting position. 84 degrees, Sunny Skies, 0% precip.I couldnt tell where they were hitting at that range, me and my buddy Aaron walked downrange to see what it looked like, and about jaw-dropped when we saw the target.
