Since I had to settle with the OPS I would like to install an alternative forearm rail system like this one: http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/31023405-1.htmlWould any AR compatible forearm rail work? Has anyone installed one of the Tapco models?Thanks!
Microgunner Posted February 19, 2012 Report Posted February 19, 2012 Welcome to T22. My Colt M4 OPS came with a quad rail so I never had any need to try any others out. But I'm sure lots of fellow Colteers here have done some swapping and will be able to point you in the right direction.

techmike Posted February 20, 2012 Report Posted February 20, 2012 I just bought a Troy 11" TRX for my AR, and I tried to install it on my Colt M4 Ops first, but it doesn't fit the Colt/Umarex threads. So I am assuming at this point that no AR hand guard will fit the Colt/Umarex. I suppose that some enterprising person could fabricate a thread adapter that would do the job.....If you come up with something please let us know!
vlhoang Posted February 20, 2012 Report Posted February 20, 2012 since the umarex colt is basically based off an airsoft receiver, most airsoft rail systems will work for colt. also im able to get rail systems for really cheap if anyone is interested. I have access to most of the daniel defense and noveske airsoft rail systems.

vlhoang Posted February 24, 2012 Report Posted February 24, 2012 they are normally made of a similar metal to our colt receivers. they are pretty tuff and can with stand the heat from a 22. put a box of 550 through my rifle in one sitting and the rail still stayed cool to the touch.

Looks just like the "real" one from Troy industries, same accessories, ect. - except it is labeled "milsim only". It is an aluminum alloy, but must be a softer alloy than the "real" ones. Will get it installed tonight and post some pictures.

techmike Posted March 4, 2012 Report Posted March 4, 2012 No problems with the install, the nut threaded right on to the Colt. I guess that proves the Colt has airsoft in it's design! I like the rail very much, it is licensed by Troy, and made in Taiwan. Hope it holds up!

techmike Posted March 13, 2012 Report Posted March 13, 2012 Got my Colt to the range yesterday, with it's new airsoft version of the 11" Troy TRX Battlerail. Worked great, no problems at all bench shooting with a rail mounted bipod. :thumb: :thumb:
