as a new gun owner i have a quick question about texas gun laws, well when i go to the rifle range i use i pack the gun and ammo in the trunk of car and the ammo is in a locked ammo can should my rifle be laid in the trunk in a locked case or do i put a lock through the action so the bolt can close and lay it in the open gun case so the cops can see it if stopped by the cops for a busted tail light or something well we drive an suv and it doesnt have a lockable trunk i just dont wana get a ticket or worse from the police

I thought in Texas rifles were only allowed to be transported loaded and in a rifle rack in the rear window of a Ford, Chevrolet, GMC or Dodge pickup truck  ;D

Rifles can be carried about any which way.  It's good to err on the cautious side however, and transport it unloaded, in a case.

Of course, a gun rack is the best-looking and most decorative method to tote your long guns!
