I read somewhere that the 10-22 has more available mods than any other gun on the planet. Saw one in a catalog that makes your 10-22 look like a German MG-42! ;D TM

Well, I don't have a 10-22. But there isn't a Ruger Model 96 thread, so I'll post the pic here! :D I really like the 96, great ranch gun - it is basically a lever action 10-22. Same mag, stock, fit, feel and great accuracy. Put a Tasco variable power scope on it and that works very well! I bought it used, and there was also one in .22 mag - wish I had got that one also! TM

My thoughts and observations on my Colt M4 OPS

Hey, Have a safe trip! For springs, you can start at Brownells, http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/cid=0/k=springs/t=P/ksubmit=y/Products/All/search=springs I think they have some generic "kits" in there some where, they also sell coils of spring stock if you care to wind your own. Midway USA also sells gunsmith supplies. My next attempt is to just change the large trigger spring..... will report back. TM -
Has anyone found a source for the Colt 10 round mag? Thanks, TM

Thanks Imshure- this is the updated version that tells you to unscrew the comp 2 turns B-4 driving out the rear pin! TM

Welcome and a G-8 report! Do not expect a new stock to fit tight. I ordered an ATI adjustable stock - it was a looser fit than the stock stock. :D I shimmed the inside of the stock with several layers of self adhesive teflon tape - it's about .0025" thick and that tightened up the stock fit. I also ordered a new grip, and found it also needed some fitting. Had to drill a hole in the new grip to allow the hammer strut to pass thru, and enlarge the mounting hole to line up with the Colt. AR parts are NOT drop in. And I DO agree with you about the cheesy white warning on the bottom of the trigger guard!!!!!! Polishing the sear/hammer engagement indeed smooths out the trigger but does little to lighten the pull. Still working on that - without going full auto. Again. ;D TM -
Yeppers - 50yds.

OK - I'll work on that this week - take some pics & post. TM ;)

OK - The bolt DOES come out fairly easily - but there IS one pesky spring that likes to fly away. If any one is interested, I can post detailed instructions for a detailed cleaning. TM

Hi again - got out to the range and tried out the BVAC .22lr ammo I got from Cheaper Than Dirt. ($25/brick) I am impressed! It shot a little hotter and higher than the Federal bulk, so after I tweaked the scope in, I sat down to see what it could do. The center bull was 30 rounds fired just as fast as I could aim & pull the trigger. The 4 corner bulls prove the BVAC ammo is an accurate round! All was at bench rest from 50 yds. TM

Thanks guys - GOOD info! TM

I REALLY like this rifle! After the second trip to the range with the Colt, I sold my SKS and all ammo and accessories. The Colt is a far superior plinking rifle, and I believe more accurate. And MUCH more fun!!!!!! Plus - feeding it is MUCH easier on the budget. The quality of the Colt/Umarex is outstanding. The SKS was inferior in comparison. However, not being allowed to remove the bolt for maintenance is a negative for the Colt. TM :)

I have never used a red dot or holo sight. What am I missing? Guess I don't want to depend on a battery to be able to shoot.... TM :-\

Actually, I was thinking more along the line of a tactical sling.

Is that the electro-plating system? TM

Thanks for the info Madhouse! TM PS - I read that if you are found in possession of a 2-liter bottle cap that has a hole drilled in it - you are guilty of possession of an unlicensed suppressor. That's a neat law!

I looked - couldn't find any.... :(

I would have to agree with Steel609 - Federal bulk is great ammo. I just tested a brand, new to me, BVAC - Bitteroot Valley Ammunition. Made in the USA, it worked flawlessly in my Colt M-4, shooting about 1.5" high to the zero for the Federal @ 50yds. Actually, slightly tighter groups. It is available from Cheaper-than-Dirt, $24.79 + shipping/brick. Has had a few bad reviews, but worked fine for me. TM :)

I noticed that the one add said "Civilian Legal" - Really? I thought these were federally controlled...? Please enlighten me! TM

;D Chuckle!

Don't know about that, but my scope's rings have thumb screws just like the OEM M-2 iron sight. Once sighted in and locked down, I can remove the scope, mount the iron sight and blast away. Re-installing the scope returns to zero with no problem. TM

The advertised pull on the Colt/Umarex is 7.5 lbs - mine measured > 10lbs - that's a bit stiff for a .22 in my book. So, I had to try to improve it. After removing the trigger group, I took it apart - single stage trigger, 3 springs - 2 for the trigger, 1 for the hammer. I stoned and polished the sear and hammer, and just for grins substituted lighter springs on the trigger. Put it all back together and functioned checked with dummy ammo. Safety A-OK. Pull measured about 5.5 lbs. Took it out to the range and loaded 1 round - accuracy was much improved! Loaded 2 rounds..... oops........ 1 trigger pull, 2 rounds fired. Loaded 3 rounds.....yep. Full auto. Brought it home and put the OEM springs back in. TM

10-4 on that! I keep finding the odd box or two at Wal-Mart. But to be fair - the Golden bullets work A-OK in my Ruger model 96, and my Sweetie's Ruger Charger - chipmunk size groups @50 yds. But not in my Colt M-4. :( TM
