Can't hit the "Broadside of a Barn"!
wobblinwheel replied to wobblinwheel's topic in S&W M&P 15-22 General
It does have a flash suppressor, and it was very tight. I removed it to remove the plastic disc in order to "float" the grip. I did not think to inspect the crown. Good idea! -
I have owned a Colt/Umarex M4 Carbine for a few years now, and I have always been somewhat impressed with it's accuracy. The reduction in squirrel population on my block can attest to that. My girlfriend loves to shoot it, and she's gotten quite good. SO, our local gun store just got in a new M&P 15-22 a few days ago, and I broke down and bought it for her. We went to the range Sunday, and after attaching her favorite red-dot sight, I attempted to sight this baby in. After about 100 rounds of various ammo, I had to give up. At 25yds, my best group was just under 4 inches! I tried one red-dot, a tried-and-true 4x scope, and open sights. Still no group. I was using a bipod mounted to the bottom rail on the foregrip, and I'm beginning wonder if this is part of the problem. I know many rifles "act up" if the bipod has direct contact with the barrel. I noticed there's a plastic "disc" inserted in the end of the rail that can be popped out, making the forend "free floating". Has anyone else had this problem? Does removing the disc help? My Colt has a bipod, on a free-floating rail, and at 25 yds, all I make is one big hole! Do these M&p's just not shoot that well??

I probably won't get a damn thing. For years, I've been telling my family (what's left of them) and friends NOT to spend any money on me at Christmas, and guess what? They don't..........dammit.

Maybe people aren't too interested in trying this because they don't have, nor want to buy a buffer spring. I just found out that my local NAPA store sells the right size spring from a ROLL. They use it to put around hydraulic hoses to protect them in the field. They sell it by the foot Don't know the price yet, but I would guess it's not expensive. I really do like the way this improves the operation and feel of the stock.
-
I can't imagine an AR buffer spring by itself would be overly expensive. I've never bought one,but if it's not expensive, it's surely worth it. The heavy spring-loading on the stock (any of them) removes any and all looseness back there, and the extending/retracting of the stock is easier and smoother. Why I didn't do this sooner is beyond me.....

I have discovered an interesting and effective fix for the loose-fitting Magpul stock I bought for my Colt/Umarex M4. I notice on this forum, a lot of you guys have experienced this. I found an extra buffer spring from my big-brother AR15, removed the little plug on the end of the Umarex (take out the allen screw in the bottom), then inserted the buffer spring into "buffer tube", re-install the stock, and BAM! No rattle or loose! The spring tension on the stock actually makes everything work even better, and firm too...try it!

Good way to have you and your weapon tracked by "Big Brother"!

Well, I got a ten-round magazine for the HK 416, advertised as "black". This one is NOT black, as was the 20-round. Exactly like the "Colt" 10-round mag. I guess this means you can't be sure of what color you're gonna get. I really wanted the black one.......dammit!

I would have to get one helluva DEAL to buy ammo online. When you add outrageous SHIPPING to outrageous PRICES, one would have to be TWICE stoopid!!

I was not so lucky on "day two"------gone

Was in Wal-Mart Saturday afternoon, and miraculously, stumbled (literally) onto a whole shipment of CCI .22 LR "standard velocity" 50 rnd boxes for $3.47 a box! So good to see SOMEBODY isn't "price gouging" the consumer! One well-known internet supplier had them for around $14 per box not long ago.... Only three boxes per customer, which was ok by me. Was able to get the Ole Lady to pick up three more for me later that day. It almost seemed this may have been a "surprise" shipment, as the "hoarders" weren't there waiting for them to show up! By the way, these bullets shoot VERY good! Much tighter groups at 50 yds. than high-velocity. CCI does label them as "Target", and I believe it!

Well, I ordered a 20-round magazine for the HK, so I could find out for myself. If anyone gives a poop, the ONLY difference is the HK magazine is BLACK, and the Colt is kinda dark gray. They are completely interchangeable, and the BLACK (HK) one looks BETTER! It matches the color of the stock, the grip, the scope, and the foregrip. Looks rather cool. Think I'm gonna get some HK ten-rounders now. They're around $19 at CTD!

One other thing, is it possible after replacing the buffer and pin, that you may have adjusted the bolt-spring tension inward TOO FAR? I found this out when I started shooting a lot of sub-sonic ammo, and forgot to adjust the spring all the way back. The shells would "stovepipe" every time! Just enough "recoil" to get the shell out of the chamber, but not enough for the bolt to go back far enough, or fast enough for the ejector to send it out the door. You might want to remove the adjusting screw and spring all together, and be sure the bolt moves all the way back (and forth) freely, and there's nothing hung-up in there binding it up (like the ejector). Also, check to make sure the PIN holding the top and bottom halves of the bolt together hasn't backed-out and is contacting the receiver housing. Mine did that once too.

I can't say I fully understand all aspects of the "blowback" system of the semi-auto rimfire, but this is my understanding (correct me if I'm wrong): 1. the EXTRACTOR'S main function is to pull out a round or shell manually, AND to hold the shell in place so the EJECTOR can kick it out. 2. the EJECTOR is a stationary part that is struck by the base of shell as the bolt is "blown back", and is what flips the shell outward. I really don't think the extractor has that much to do with the "ejection" process when firing. The blowback effect should un-chamber the shell either way. Right? Can you insert a round into the "recess" on the face of the the bolt, and the extractor will latch on to it? Can you MANUALLY extract/eject a round? If a round can be manually ejected, I would seriously look at the EJECTOR. It must be held firmly in place, and can't be boogered-up on the end, and definitely not BENT.

Does anybody know the difference between (Umarex) Colt M4 magazines and HK 416? CTD has plenty of both, they have different part numbers, but the HK's are a little cheaper. Plus they have the HK mags in a closer warehouse. From the photos, they look IDENTICAL. Does anybody know for sure?

One more thing......"ARE THESE PEOPLE NUTS???"....or do they think WE are?.......or ARE WE?
-
I just got a flyer from "More Expensive than Gold", I mean "Cheaper than Dirt". Check THIS out: CCI MiniMag HP 100 rnds. = $59.59 CCI Pistol Match 50 rnds. = $49.59 " "Tactical" 375 rnds. = $199.19 And last, but not least, a 50 rnd. box of "Stingers" is $29.19!! Also, a 500 rnd. box of Armscore 36 gr. h.p. is $199.59!! "W.T.F????"

I think, on a state and local level, these radical politicians will eventually have their collective "asses handed to them on a plate", except for places like California and New York City. Those people ain't normal anyway.......
-
Ok, I'm beginning to think it's time for some of us to stop "cleaning out" any and all ammo that happens to become available on any shelves anywhere. I believe, at least most of this radical, Liberal Democrat-induced "gun control" legislation will inevitably NOT become law. If some of you guys continue to buy-up EVERY PIECE of ammo you can get your hands on will surely continue to drive the prices out of reason, and will make sure that many of us unable to find, or afford (especially .22's) our beloved "cheap-to-shoot" handguns and rifles! "Sensible" buying practices seems to be the ONLY way things just might get back to "normal", or at least CLOSE. Cutting back on outrageous demand (hoarding), may just increase supply, and decrease these CRAZY prices! Just sayin'.......maybe we can actually begin to buy GUNS again, because we can actually find AMMO, and be able to afford to SHOOT!!
-
Got it. Shot it. Five rounds eatin' out of the same hole at 30 yds. I think it's quieter than Winchester, not sure. Can't waste these babies, after freight, almost $10 a box!!!!
-
Just ordered some! Thanks for the info. Look out, "Rocky"!!
-
They are good ammo. Shot two bricks last year. One subsonic lrn, one high-velocity hollow point. No complaints.

How about almost $5000.00 for cataract surgery! 45 minutes on the table!
