imschur
photography is just as bad an addiction as firearms. I pre-ordered the Nikon D7000. I only ordered the body as I have lenses already

asmurff
Nice thing about the camera bug is you can still do so many other things and still do it at the same time. My grandfather was a professional photographer and I doubt there was ever a time there wasn't a camera within easy reach. He mostly work for the Army at Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland and took photos and films of the their testing.
imschur
Canceled the order for the D7000. Three reasons, first I was tired of waiting. Amazon actually took $25 off the order because this release has been a fiasco. Reason two, I see enough reports with hot pixels and dead pixels. i could live with that in video mode or on the LCD but when they show up in images that means there's a sensor issue. Lastly while I saw some great images and rumors of impressive focusing the actual image results from normal folks seemed unimpressive. So after a lot of thinking I jumped ship to a Canon 60D. On paper its marginally better than the D90 and it gets creamed by the D7000. However the images I saw favored the Canon in the way I use a Camera. As a side note Canon dropped the price of the 60D ($300) to the point where I got the camera body, Lens and a few other things for the price of the Nikon D7000 body. lmao_37
That's cool :thumb: and don't forget you can use all the Olympus om lenses with an adaptor, i have a canon 350D/XD or whatever its called and i use all my Olympus lenses and i brought a 120mm lens used for $9 and it works like dream for what i want it for, i think i paid $10 for the adaptor ring online a few years back, i have see some nice ziess manual lenses for the Olympus om going for alot less money than 1 canon power zoom lens, i prefer fixed manual lenses over zoom lenses ;D
bdavison
I bought a D60 about 2 years ago...thing is bullet proof.I dont see the point in shooting video with a DSLR. If I wanted to shoot video, Id buy a video camera.Nikon should quit worrying about soccer mom's Facebook vids, and get back to real photography.Lets face it...when soccer mom goes out to a dimly lit soccer field to video her son or daughter tripping over their shoelaces with her pre-packaged 18-55 and 55-200, and starts shooting video at f/6 1600 ISO....its still gonna look like crap. And if Nikon thinks that soccer mom is gonna spend a couple grand on a f/1 prime for a D3000 they are kidding themselves. Quit goofin around with video garbage, and put those resources into better high ISO performance with low noise without needing a D3Xand for them to do a christmas special on the 70-300 VR Nikkor so I can afford to buy one without dipping into my gun money. ;D
imschur
Theres a bunch of Nikon rebates going on this month. Maybe that will help you. There is also a rumor of a mirrorless DSLR from Nikon getting unveiled in 2011.
bdavison
Mirrorless DSLR?How's that going to work?LCD Viewfinder...BOOOOOOThats nothing but a glorified point and shoot. Why would they do that? Oh NOOOOO.I guess Im a purist. I hate that they added "live view" to the new DSLR's. Defeats the purpose of what you see is what you get. You just never quite get accurate reproduction on a LCD.Im sticking with my D60 for as long as I can. If the mirror dies, im gonna have it fixed.Id like a D80, because of the internal AF drive, but I can deal with that.
imschur
I have found live view helpful when I cant get my head near the viewfinder which seems like most of what I do. Im surprised someone hasnt developed a removable back so you can have all the controls and screen tethered off camera.
