wobblinwheel Posted November 28, 2010 Report Posted November 28, 2010 Got a buddy of mine who used to be in the (recent) Miltary who claims to have a "military-issue?" ACOG-STYLE scope for the carry-handle of an M4! Haven't seen it yet, but what do you think it might be? He doesn't have a rifle to put it on, so he doesn't need it. Good thing is, my Colt has the removable carry handle! Think I oughta chase him down and try to get this thing? Says somebody gave it to him. Could it be one of them HIGH-DOLLAR jobs?
imschur Posted November 28, 2010 Report Posted November 28, 2010 Probably junk...send it to me and Ill be sure to dispose of it properly  Maybe you can drill it down with this http://www.markfingar.com/Product.htm
wobblinwheel Posted November 28, 2010 Author Report Posted November 28, 2010 Ugh.....OK! If it's not worth more than a thousand dollars, I'll send it to you to throw away for me!
rodent.22 Posted November 28, 2010 Report Posted November 28, 2010 I'd be careful accepting anything that might have been gotten improperly. C:-)
FS2KSTD Posted November 29, 2010 Report Posted November 29, 2010 If it's issue and carry handle mounted, it's probably a TA01. Nice optic for sure.http://www.rainierarms.com/?page=shop/detail&product_id=280
wobblinwheel Posted November 29, 2010 Author Report Posted November 29, 2010 Got it earlier today. Definitely NOT military issue! Best I can tell, it's a Leapers 4x20. Story I got today was: "These [military] guys bought them because they didn't like what they had." Sounds like B.S. to me, but IT WAS STILL FREE!! And it works!
imschur Posted November 29, 2010 Report Posted November 29, 2010 I still use an optic like that often. That was standard issue a few decades ago.
wobblinwheel Posted November 30, 2010 Author Report Posted November 30, 2010 Just finished zeroing it in @ 25yds. Had to screw with the elevation a bit, but she's dead-on now! Pretty good for FREE, huh?
Microgunner Posted December 2, 2010 Report Posted December 2, 2010 Both the factory Colt & Armalite versions of this scope were manufactured in Japan by Bushnell for them.
wobblinwheel Posted December 2, 2010 Author Report Posted December 2, 2010 The only thing I don't care for with this handle-mounted scope, as opposed to the rail-mounted NcStar scope is the eye-relief. I have to collapse the stock all the way in order to get close enough to the scope to get a full field of view. The rail-mounted scope in that respect is perfect. Hence, the advantages of flat-top design, I guess.
