Tal Posted August 18, 2011 Report Posted August 18, 2011 After hanging around here, and a few other places, watching numerous videos, and drooling at several gun dealer sites, I've come to the conclusion.....(Drum Roll...)...It looks like a hell of a lot of fun to own a tactical 22...(Curse you Drew... ;D)...Seems to me a lot of FUN factor having a little 22 with a 25 to 30 round clip. And of course you need multiple clips...Scopes...Carrying case...etc...(Damn you Drew.. ;D)Now...You guys are the experts..Tactical Rifle...Umarex, Mossberg, S&W, Sig, etc.....OR...Tactical Pistol..Kel Tec, Sig, S&W, etc...(The pistols look like a lot of fun, but I'm a little concerned about the grip..)For a 1st time Tactical 22 buyer and relative newbie to the semi-auto world, what I'd be interested to hear your thoughts...Figure you guys ought to know. I read some of your descriptions about the inner workings, ammo, statistical info, and I think sometimes you guys are talking a foreign language, but after spending some time to research, I understand the topic, and the valuable info being shared here...In short...I value you guys opinions...And I knew Drew, would get me hooked on this when I put my toe in the water...He knows me too well... ;D
imschur Posted August 18, 2011 Report Posted August 18, 2011 How about this. You get an inexpensive AR-15 and get a dedicated .22lr upper from CMMG. The change from .22r to .223 is 30 seconds
Microgunner Posted August 18, 2011 Report Posted August 18, 2011 A CMMG upper is what Drew talked me into. Actually he just needed to tempt me with a photo, I'm a sucker for 22s.So far the CMMG is the best tactical 22 I own followed by my Puma PPS.The other tactical22s I own I rate in order:Colt M4 OPSRemington 597 VTRGSG-5SIG 522GSG Kalashnikov
Tal Posted August 19, 2011 Author Report Posted August 19, 2011 Thank you gentlemen... I will check them out...
techmike Posted August 19, 2011 Report Posted August 19, 2011 Well, I am a sucker for the Colt M4. I got mine new for $600, see them now for $399 or less. Have done a bit of work on mine, Bill Springfield trigger job, few mods, ect ect. I would not part with it for anything. I have heard good things about the S&W MP15-22, have not fired one, but it doesn't have the feel of the metal Colt. But, it is a lot easier to clean the the Colt. Good luck with your decision!
lmao_37 Posted August 19, 2011 Report Posted August 19, 2011 Have done a bit of work on mine,What bits are original is an easier question ;D by the way really nice looking rifle there sir
wobblinwheel Posted August 19, 2011 Report Posted August 19, 2011 I too like Colt. It feels very "hefty" compared to many others. I have heard/read from a lot of folks who have purchased NEWER versions, that most of the older "bugs" have been corrected. They now have functioning dust-covers, stiffer bolt springs, 90-degree safety levers, and improved chamber contours that accept a wider range of ammo. Even the dreaded REMINGTON! I just wish they would sell me the necessary parts to upgrade mine!
techmike Posted August 19, 2011 Report Posted August 19, 2011 What bits are original is an easier question There are a few... ;D
asmurff Posted August 19, 2011 Report Posted August 19, 2011 I'm partial to Ruger 10/22s, then you can make them look however you want.
