imschur Posted January 2, 2010 Report Posted January 2, 2010 So I need a 1911 to go with my .22 conversion. Any suggestions based on the poll? Any other ideas?
FS2KSTD Posted January 2, 2010 Report Posted January 2, 2010 Build a dedicated frame for it would be my vote.
Microgunner Posted January 2, 2010 Report Posted January 2, 2010 I would search out a used mil-spec 1911 to install your conversion on. These can be had cheaper than buying and building a frame. We have two RIA 1911's in stock that look surprisingly nice and operate very smoothly. You should be able to find a used example in your area for $350 - $400. As a bonus you can always quickly return it to a functioning .45ACP. I know people like to install extended triggers with over travel stops, extended safeties, extended slide locks, full length guide rods, etc. but truth be told, these modifications will have no positive effect on accuracy or reliability. Maybe just the reverse. So I say "stay basic".
asmurff Posted January 2, 2010 Report Posted January 2, 2010 I'd go with the RIA GI also. I have one and it is a solid pistol for a very decent price.
asmurff Posted January 3, 2010 Report Posted January 3, 2010 Voting wise we were a big help evenly split three ways lol.

imschur Posted January 3, 2010 Author Report Posted January 3, 2010 Well Im in no hurry. I dont think Ill have any cash until end of Feb or March. Still trying to finish off these AR's here. ;D
Kilibreaux Posted October 18, 2010 Report Posted October 18, 2010 I would start with an aluminum 1911 frame and build it out, then mount a .22LR conversion unit as this is the lightest configuration, yet still plenty "heavy" to handle a lifetime of shooting.
