imschur Posted January 30, 2010 Report Posted January 30, 2010 Are there any good aftermarket coatings or process's for coloring stainless steel to either dark blue or black? I would like to make a stainless 1911 two tone.
rodent.22 Posted January 30, 2010 Report Posted January 30, 2010 Try EPI.com. They market a black oxide compound you boil in water....
FS2KSTD Posted January 31, 2010 Report Posted January 31, 2010 Cerakote? Or do you want a home version?
rodent.22 Posted January 31, 2010 Report Posted January 31, 2010 this LLama has the duo-tone, in 15 years it hasn't gotten old.
imschur Posted January 31, 2010 Author Report Posted January 31, 2010 Thanks guys, I definitely want to send it to a pro
techmike Posted February 1, 2010 Report Posted February 1, 2010 I really like Dura-Coat. It is rated for stainless, I use an air brush, and have not been disappointed. I air cure it, after two weeks it is bullet proof!http://www.duracoat-firearm-finishes.com/TM
Cyclone Posted February 8, 2010 Report Posted February 8, 2010 How does it hold up to cleaning solvents ?I may think about the Urban Camo on my HiPoint 995 :thumb:
techmike Posted February 8, 2010 Report Posted February 8, 2010 How does it hold up to cleaning solvents ?No problems so far - just have to make sure to follow the instructions carefully, and make sure your measurements are accurate. It is a two part epoxy paint. This is my first dura-coat project - a CZ-82.TM
