imschur
Without warning Remington is pulling the plug on Marlin Firearms here in CT. A lot of history there, sad day.Connecticut was once the center of the gun making universe. Slowly they have all been leaving due to high operating costs and an anti gun climate. Not sure who we have left. Colt, Seecamp and I think the Ruger headquarters is still here. asmurff
State governments have be forcing these type of moves a lot lately. Does Marlin already have another plant somewhere else or are they consolidating with the other companies plants of the group that owns them?I was in upstate NY when Remington decided to head to NC because of operating cost and I'm sure idealogy reasons, the impact on the small town where the plant was harsh. Longitude Zero
As long as the weapons production is only being moved to another location in the USA it is fine by me. I am not happy that the people in CT are loosing there jobs.
imschur
I drive by the Marlin plant often. I always ponder how strong the demand is for their products. I dont follow them closely but they dont seem to be keeping up with the times. Their products are still geared towards hunters and maybe youths with the semi auto .22's. Theres no diversity or branching out. I wonder how many 30-30's they ship now compared to 20 years ago? Hunting by many reports is also on a decline. asmurff
Other than the disruption of the workers lives maybe being consolidated will improve the diversity of their selection. I own a Marlin .22 bolt action, it is a very accurate rifle, however, even Marlin offers nothing for it in the way of accessories or even gear and their web site has very little content. So maybe the infusion of new blood will help bring them up to date, but it is a shame it couldn't have happened in the New Haven plant.
