I just called Gun Craft. They don't have a web site. They said that must be a high jack on line. They're definately still in the gun smith business and would be happy to slick up your 642. Turn around time approx 2 weeks. 813-645-5878
I just went to Gun Craft's web site. Man, that place has changed. It's web site is now Crafts by Shari. and lists affiliation with SASS. They mainly list craft works! What's up with that? Old Ben must have finally passed on.
Gun Craft in Ruskin Fl. is nationally known (mostly IPSC) and does beautiful work. They've done many things for me. Two things though. They ain't afraid to charge you and prepare to wait. But this is true of any smith worth his weight.
I've sold a bunch but never fired one. Owners seem to like them. Of course, most appeared to be attracted to the detachable box magazine primarily. Da loves dem "banana clips". Don't know if they'll legally or physically accept AK furniture. But that'd be neat.
The FTFire malfunctions on these new rifles seems to stem from a dirty firing pin channel. When shipped new they are treated with a shipping preservative that can gum up the works. A couple of shots of Gun Scrubber (or equivalent) into the bolt followed by a lubricant will usually cure this problem. The bore also needs cleaned prior to firing due to this preservative.
