bgc Posted July 2, 2011 Report Posted July 2, 2011 I did a dye job on a Marlin 81DL....and sprayed it with Tru-Oil...
bgc Posted July 2, 2011 Report Posted July 2, 2011 Thanks, Someday I may get the urge to rattle can something creative on one of the guns.
imschur Posted July 2, 2011 Report Posted July 2, 2011 as a life long woodworker I want to one day do an authentic tung oil and shellac violin type finish on the wood of a fine firearm. I feel I mastered the technique well enough. No other finish creates the same glow and is so simple to repair. It's very gratifying to buy your own fresh shellac flakes and creating the finish yourself
bgc Posted July 3, 2011 Report Posted July 3, 2011 Woodcraft has pure tung oil, stuff takes forever to cure. I buy a slow denatured alcohol from Sherwin Williams for shellac, lots of coats and sanding. Boiled Linseed oil is my favorite for firearms.
imschur Posted July 3, 2011 Report Posted July 3, 2011 Actually I mispoke. It's BLO followed by Shellac. I shop here http://www.highlandwoodworking.com/search.aspx?find=shellac
M4rk Posted July 4, 2011 Author Report Posted July 4, 2011 I did a dye job on a Marlin 81DL....and sprayed it with Tru-Oil...shiny!

Microgunner Posted March 24, 2015 Report Posted March 24, 2015 Damn! That came out good, all melded and dipped.
krystofer66 Posted March 25, 2015 Report Posted March 25, 2015 Yeah he does good work. An old high school friend of mine did the work. He also dipped my wife's benelli in Muddy Girl Camo.
