techmike Posted August 1, 2011 Report Posted August 1, 2011 Read it HereAnyone else heard of this?? :o
Madhouse Posted August 1, 2011 Report Posted August 1, 2011 I hadn't heard of this. The sale of Chiappa firearms in the USA is about to plummet. That's an understatement!
asmurff Posted August 1, 2011 Report Posted August 1, 2011 A bit more on thishttp://www.ammoland.com/2011/07/28/rfid-chip-in-chiappa-firearms/
Longitude Zero Posted August 1, 2011 Report Posted August 1, 2011 Very bad idea and plan. My fears is that once the camel gets its nose under the tent...
asmurff Posted August 1, 2011 Report Posted August 1, 2011 It may have been for inventory reasons, but once everyone got use to the chip being there, what is to prevent them, customs or the AFTE from switching the chips to one with other more sinister purposes?
Madhouse Posted August 1, 2011 Report Posted August 1, 2011 RFIDs have NO power source or GPS locator. Rest assured they are NOT transmitting your identification and location information to a Chiappa Firearm tasked CIA satellite.Well, no shit. We're not all tin foil hat wearers. But they should go ahead and put an RFID on a band that can be cut off when the item is shipped from the factory, which is when inventory control stops.
George Wood Posted August 2, 2011 Report Posted August 2, 2011 Active power source or not they can still be read in proximity. I fully agree that they should be able to be removed by the consumer. Like the tags on pillows- "do not remove under penalty of law".
asmurff Posted August 2, 2011 Report Posted August 2, 2011 I agree on something removable, removed when shipped.
Dutchdiamondback Posted August 3, 2011 Report Posted August 3, 2011 Easy, fellas...This won't be another big brother-scam. Those chips are only there for the manufacturer and shipping. Once you got one, peel it off and discart. Anything else and something else raises it's ugly head: European privacy laws. The same laws that prevented the US to get insight in all currency traffic of every European citizen, for example.
Madhouse Posted August 4, 2011 Report Posted August 4, 2011 ... peel it off and discard ...It looks like it's buried under the grips. If it were outside where it could be seen that would be fine.
bdavison Posted August 4, 2011 Report Posted August 4, 2011 In all reality, they'd have better luck locating your guns with a metal detector.
lmao_37 Posted August 5, 2011 Report Posted August 5, 2011 Another great plan layed at the feet of the anti gun lobby >:(
