techmike
CDNN sports has them used in different grades. Mine was $299 shipped. It is a bolt action, single shot, and I am sure it will be a project gun.

asmurff
I'm assuming it's a competition rifle, but what type?
Microgunner
I bought a CM-2 new about 5 years back. I had the top of the receiver milled down, drilled and tapped for a Leupold Marlin 336 sight base. Fits perfect. Couldn't get the front sight off so I had the smith cut the barrel down 3 inches and re-crowned. All this work was done by Ben at Guncraft in Ruskin Florida and is beautiful.I pillar and glass bedded the action and free floated the barrel myself. Mounted a Japanese Bushnell 24x scope. That sucker is one serious tack driver, possibly my most accurate rimfire, and I own some seriously accurate rimfires. If yours is anything like mine you're in for a real treat. techmike
Hey MG, thanks for the info and ideas.TM
bdavison
That rifle was designed for biathlon shooting. Its an older design, the new biathlon rifles have pretty much done away with heavy wood stocks, and gone to lightweight aluminum frame stocks. And they've switched from bolt-action to straight pull fortner actions. No doubt it will be a tack-driver. I'd expect to see it capable of shooting same hole groups to 25m with no problems. techmike
Nice, MG! Just received mine, the wood is intact, but will need to be refinished, all the metal is in great shape, trigger pull is set to about 1lb. Will post some pics later today. bdavison
Yeah, we definitly need the link for these. Im kinda wanting one. Only problem is if I get one....its probably going to be my gateway drug for getting back into competitive shooting. Oh, and by the way....the rear diopter sight is worth the entire cost of the rifle, if its well made.
techmike
The link for the used ones - http://site.cdnninvestments.com/CDNN2011-3/index.html - it is on page 65 - type 65 into the box at the bottom. You will have to call in to order. Mine arrived in good shape, all the numbers match, but, it does not have a walnut stock as advertised-it is some type of birch. I am in process of refinishing mine. Finish removed, bleaching it tonight, pre-stain conditioner tomorrow, then some Watco danish oil finish. All the metal parts except the barrel have been marinating in the ultrasonic cleaner. No work needed there except oiling after rinsing. The sight is in good working order, looking forward to some serious range time with this. :thumb:
imschur
I like the idea of $300 and restoring it.I found new ones here $585 http://www.mtguns.com/cm-2.htm.
techmike
Good link - I may order the accessory kit - it has the different sight inserts that did not come with the used one. Thanks Drew!

techmike
Thanks MG. Having issues with the bleaching process. Last time I used wood bleach, it was just oxalic acid crystals that you mixed with water. Can't find it anywhere. Had to try some 2 part liquid product that is not as effective. There seems to be many products that are not available anymore.
imschur
Two part bleaches should be the best if they are the correct mixture of Sodium Hydroxide and Hydrogen Peroxide. I think the caustic nature of that combo makes them less readily available. Whats the ingredients in your two part? Let me hit google
imschur
Jeez all those producs seem to be gone. Kleenstrip wood bleach was supposed to work well but Im not sure if thats still available. As a last resort visit a Marine store. Boat maintenance seems to allow the use of chemicals not allowed elsewhere
imschur
also you might be able to find the ingredients seprately and mix your own. I probably have a book that has the ratio's
imschur
Here's a brief from the author of the book I was refering too. I think we need a new technical section...hmm3360_5b95904a1bc08233c869072361bb934c0276c549.txt

Let me hit googleThat is what I found at Woodcraft - Sodium Hydroxide and Hydrogen Peroxide - it is OK, but not as effective as the old oxalic crystals - I could mix that in a stronger concentration for spot applications on dark spots.
