The fine folks at KEL TEC have told me to ship my PLR22 to them for warranty work. What steps do I have to take for the shipping folks, like UPS, Fed EX, etc...Before I shipped, or called the shippers for info, thought I'd put to you guys because of all the real world experience doing this. Never know what kind of misinformation you may get when contacting the shipper. Depends on who picks up the phone. So any thoughts or experiences feel free to post..

Thanks..

Handguns may be shipped by the owner directly to the manufacturer's warranty center by common carrier but NOT by USPS. FFL holders only may ship handguns via USPS.

Anyone may ship long guns via USPS.

I've got no choice, if I want to make sure it's right.  Bought mine using Gun Genie, and the local dealer offered to exchange it for a new one. They only have 5 in inventory, and I'm afraid I may be repeating history, or worse yet be out of stock on the return. Kel Tec says they'll make good on it, so I'm going that route.

On that $75.00 overnight fee was that through a UPS shipping center or a UPS store. BIG difference in shipping prices between the two..

UPS requires overnight shipping on handguns because their employees steal firearms regularly. With overnight shipping the package is always signed for and accounted for. This prevents theft.

So you must pay extra instead of UPS controlling employee theft.

Lucky you.

Kel Tec didn't issue a call tag to UPS or Fed Ex to p/u your pistol. Only time I've had to have warranty work on a gun was a RIA 1911 they paid the shipping both ways.

Nope....I pay for it to get there, They pay for it to go back...Yeah...I didn't like it either...

I’m sorry. Please return it to the physical address below with a letter stating your Name, Return Address, Phone Number, E-Mail Address, Model, Caliber, Serial Number, Brand and Type of Ammunitions used, any accessories that you’re sending along with it and difficulty experienced. We’ll need a copy of the purchase receipt to qualify for the warranty; otherwise there could be a charge for some parts and/or services as well as return shipping. No return authorization number is required. If you have a dealer return it for you, we’ll need their information for return. If you ship it yourself, you can use UPS or FedEx, but a dealer can ship it through the mail much cheaper. Do not ship it through the USPS mail yourself though. Please also keep a record of your serial number for yourself, since that’s the easiest way for us to look it up. Please let us know if you have any further questions. Turnaround time is about 4-6 weeks. If you have an active law enforcement or military ID, please include a copy of that as well.

I had a PF9 that malf'd, I had to pay $55 to UPS for overnight shipping back to KelTec. And, it has to go to a UPS hub, the UPS Stores cannot accept firearms, so I also had to drive 40 miles round trip. I do not own any KelTecs now.

Good Luck!

I hear you guys...I'm just hoping they can actually FIX it... For the price of the pistol, accesories, it came out to aroun $400.00...

I can buy a hell of a 22cal pistol for $400.00..(A Woodsmen for instance.. ;D)..

Most manufacturers will pay both ways if the gun is less than a year old.  I know Taurus and Walther do this cause I sent back guns that were less than 1 yr old and paid nothing.

I'm sitting with a Beretta Neos that had the firing pin recall done a while back, but now I pull the trigger maybe once, twice, three times before it goes bang.  Very sporadic and flaky.  Actually scary.

I have a 3 year warranty on it and it's only about halfway through, but I DO have to pay the roughly $50 to send it overnight to them via UPS.  Got too many .22lr automatic pistols to worry about it for the moment.  Yes, it sucks to have to pay one way, let alone round trip, but I pick and choose my battles.

The Neos will sit for a while.... and get sent in before the warranty runs out in a year and a half or so..

What kills me is, I've had the gun exactly 3 weeks...And haven't got through 2 mags without a failure, after cleaning, emails, adjustments etc...Now I'm out another $60.00..

In retrospect I should have probably taken the Lifetime Warranty thing at Gun Genie, but I was afraid I was going to get another lemon...
