Microgunner
I just heard that S&W will be offering the new M&P15-22 with a threaded muzzle & attachment. Cool. I'm glad now that I haven't been able to locate one wholesale. I'll wait for the new version.

steel609
Dang, why did I have to buy so early?? I want a threaded barrel!!I wonder what it would cost to get our existing barrels threaded?
Madhouse
I was wondering that too. Can it be threaded? If so, I think I know of a shop here in town that can do it.http://www.aquilafirearms.com/

asmurff
This group is going to create a new type of bankruptcy; :o the Chapter .22 where you have to liquidate all you other assets to pay your guns and ammo bill. ;D
Cyclone
I figure before I bother to tear my MP apart, I would ask you guys. How hard is it to remove the barrel from the receiver as to get it in a lathe ? I assume that it is pressed in and not threaded into the receiver ? If I can get it out 1/2-28 threads will be no problem.
Cyclone
Well I got off my lazy A#* and looked now my question is what do I need to know before unthreading the barrel ? Does the barrel bottom out when reinstalled ? What about locking compound ?
Cyclone
I had the guy who we buy our tooling from at my work hook me up with the 1/2-28 tap & die. I am going to make my own flash hider / muzzle brake. It is afterall just for looks so I can experiment a little. :thumb:
imschur
Hey Cyclone, for the die portion you might want to experiment on some scrap stock of the correct diameter. It can be a little tricky getting the threads straight by hand. I would suspect guys who thread muzzles either thread it directly with threading tools meant for a lathe or have a setup in the lathe to keep the die straight and square to the muzzle.Do you have the capability to turn the barrel to the correct diameter? imschur
Heres another picture. Notice the shoulder and the undercut after the threads.
Cyclone
Oh yeah ... I happen to be a metal fabricator. I will be doing it in a lathe for sure. We have a holder for dies also. Has anyone here got any advice as far as removing the barrel from the weapon. I can figure it out but any pointers would be appreciated. I will snap some pics of the whole mess while I ruin a good barrel. :o

27 Beck
I wonder what it would cost to get our existing barrels threaded?I had my barrel threaded (1/2 x 28) by Olde English Gun Shop in Tipp City OH. If you are interested, give them a call and ask for Andrew. 937-667-3325. Cost was ~$80.00 area, and turn around was less than a week. Madhouse
My friend cut some test threads into a piece of stock in his lathe, came out perfect.Does anybody know how to get the barrel out? We're going to do both of ours.
27 Beck
Takes a "special tool" to remove the barrel nut, then the barrel comes right off. Tool could have two "tabs" like in this picture, or possibly 4 "tabs" Maybe your friend could make the "special tool" and sell them. ;D
StLPro2A
FYI - Noticed a repeating auction on GunBroker for MP15-22 barrel threading service. Believe it was about $30-$40. Bought my MP15-22 with threaded bbl/flash hider on GB for #390.00 + $15.00 SH. Best price I've found.
