rodent.22 Posted January 30, 2010 Report Posted January 30, 2010 Any of you guys up there in Conn or N.H. that do any flea marketing ever look for old Ruger brand carpenter tools? After WWII Ruger went into business making carpenter tools, squares, hand drills hammers, etc. His quality and pricing were too high for the times and he went bankrupt, as he was operating on BORROWED money which he couldn't repay. When he went into the gun business he was notorious for not incurring ANY sort of debt. They say these Ruger brand tools are highly sought after....
imschur Posted January 30, 2010 Report Posted January 30, 2010 I was not aware of that. Do you have any more info? tool types? pictures? I collect old tools a little. Reminds of a story for another topic.
rodent.22 Posted January 30, 2010 Author Report Posted January 30, 2010 This is a great book on Ruger and his life by R.L. Wilson. Barnes and Noble has this for $19.99....Check closely the drill handles- they predate the Mark I pistol by several years....
Microgunner Posted January 30, 2010 Report Posted January 30, 2010 Cool. I know that Ruger now makes many products including Calloway golf clubs in their Pinetree Castings division, who also casts Ruger's gun parts as well.
asmurff Posted January 30, 2010 Report Posted January 30, 2010 Interesting tidbit and nice collectibles.
rodent.22 Posted February 7, 2010 Author Report Posted February 7, 2010 supposedly 12 different types of tools were made with ''RUGER'' inscribed on them. Each is worth more than one of their new guns today....
techmike Posted February 7, 2010 Report Posted February 7, 2010 Never knew that - thanks for the info. I do have a Tim Allen hammer - the "tool guy"...TM
