Ive been using the little woman's camera a Nikon D70 for about a year. She's been asking to borrow it back from me for a while now. The problem is much of my time is spent taking pictures then using Adobe Photoshop CS4 to hide my poor photography skills. So after a lot of thought I decided it was time to get my own DSLR and get more proficient at taking pictures. I spend so much time taking and retaking pictures then editing them that it takes the joy out of it.

I had a hard time deciding between a Canon EOS 50D and a Nikon D90. I was leaning pretty heavily towards the Canon as it comes with software that Nikon charges $150 for. But in the end I decided to go with the Nikon as the little woman has Nikon lenses and a speedlight that are compatible with the D90.

This software Im referring to is called Nikon Camera Control 2. The great thing about the software is it will allow me to see my images, control the settings and take the picture right from my pc. This should greatly reduce the amount of time I spend messing with the pictures.

Nice selection on the camera!  And man, that camera control sounds sweet!

I've been working with a Konika/Minolta D'Image A2 for a few years now, and would love to move to a DSLR.

Let's see some fancy shots!!!    :thumb:

Nice...at least the nomenclature sounds impressive to me. I've got sort of an obsessive personality and tend to go overboard so I stay away from cameras.  I couldn't afford a photography addiction along with the guns. So all my photos are taken with whatever camera is in the showcase, always with poor results.

Im like you microgunner. The real cost of an item isnt the problem so much as buying all the other stuff that you "must have" to go with it.

Amazon.com had such a great price on the camera and lens combo that I was able to pick up a case a few memory cards,RF remote and still come out cheaper then many of the other outlets.

Fortunately the lens Nikon sells with this kit covers 95% of anything I want to do.

For now I will continue to use the little woman's tripod.

I was into photography (film) some years back and was pretty good at it. It started with a little 35mm SLR then moved up to a better SLR then (2) Canon F1Ns, a myriad of lenses & lights, then my first medium format, a Mamiya C220 TLR, then a C330, (3) M645 medium formats, a RZ67, studio lighting systems  then finally a 4x5 view camera. I got to where I thought that $150.00 for a canvas Domke bag was a bargain. I would carry thousands of dollars worth of equipment with me everywhere. Obsessive. Can't go there again.

We need a new camera the old Canon Power Shot A80 just ain't cutting it, and a DSLR is what my wife wants. Maybe it'll improve my gun pictures.

The accessories get you everytime, when I bought the A80 6 years ago I believe the extras were about half again as much as the camera itself.

I have a HP digital that works  - "ok" - miss the view finder - darn lcd screen blanks out in sunlight! A buddy at work got a DSLR that is so fast it can freeze frame a humming bird. So he says. But I do like not having film. And flash bulbs. Or flash cubes.

First off, I'll assume you believe this fine new equipment will enhance the quality of your finished products, so, who am I to argue? We'll be needing to see some really fine, well crafted photos posted. And starting real soon. Use all the new stuff. Yeah.

BTW I failed to mention the the little woman an I have actually been at this for a long time just never brought things up to the next level. We both have old Olympus OM's with lenses and flashes. Then just before the digital stuff we jumped over too Nikon as Olympus was in the crapper and couldnt repair her OM. We have a few Nikons with lenses that naturally aren't compatible with our DSLR's

Someday Ill tell you guys about my 1989 trip to Daytona Beach for spring break armed with cameras.

One of my on going projects when the weather or my health keeps me in is scanning all my photographs, the idea being to give a set to each of my kids and a set for us.
